Did you not want Susan's lad from the start then Sluffy?
There were plenty of Bolton fans at t'Turf in December 2009 who did want him.
Now you've got someone, who lets face it not many Bolton fans had as their first choice.
If he doesn't win at least two out of his four first games then the cycle will continue.
I guess was in a very small minority in not actually thinking Megson was a bad manager.
Of course he had to go when he did because the vast majority of the fans were on his back and it had got poisonous for the club.
I felt he'd been treated badly generally speaking.
These days I'm very insular when it comes to football so I didn’t know much about Coyle than what I'd seen in the press so was happy enough for him to come - old boy and all that - plus there was the promise of entertaining football as well.
The thing was for me that as the early weeks went by the club was getting almost the identical results that Megson was achieving - yet Megson was derided as not knowing what the fuck he was doing, yet Coyle was being feted as some sort of a God!
When I started to ask on the forums what actually (result and performance wise) was the difference between the two, I was by enlarge deemed some sort of an idiot.
The more I saw of the games under Coyle the more I doubted that he actually had any tactical savvy - just simple things like not using subs to close a game down when it had been won but instead take risks and go for another goal - that wouldn't effect the end result - and consequently letting in late equalisers and indeed winners - just schoolboy type managing really - not professional at all.
It soon seemed obvious to me that Coyle was well out of his depth strategically wise and that if I could see that opposition scouts and managers could too!
There really was two major questions to me - firstly whoever recommended that we appoint him as manager had not studied his tactical skills and applications of them in any depth and secondly when the problem became apparent with him in situ, why something was done about it PDQ!
Ok mistakes happen, we may not have spotted such an obvious flaw when things were going right for Coyle at Burnley - but even at that stage his away record in the Premier was horrendous - surely that should have rung a warning to someone about how he set up for away games at the top level? - but why the hell did the club let Coyle blunder on towards relegation without something being done to stop it and improve things? I'm talking about from the start of 2010 - nearly two years back!
I don't know how ego's and machismoness plays out in football at the top level but clearly someone with a footballing brain was needed to be brought in to help Coyle - if he was to be retained as the figurehead - or conversely plans had to be made to replace him before the damage was done and he got us relegated and lost millions in Sky revenue.
None of it made any sense to me - and I said so -the time - but Coyle could do no wrong apparently - even now he still as a great deal of supporters sympathy and no doubt Gartside’s as well.
I've no idea how good / bad a manager Freedman is - but I'd be staggered if he was anywhere like as bad as Coyle is.
At the end of the day football is only a game - or should be anyway - I felt sorry for Megson but he had to go, I was happy for Coyle to come but it turned out to be a big mistake, I can't understand why the 'mistake' wasn't addressed a whole lot sooner but at the end of the day I don't own the club and call the shots, so I let them get on with it and simply scratch my head on little internet forums like this trying to make sense of what's going on around me - and often failing!
That's football in the twenty-first century I guess!
