Wanderers have released eight players after announcing their retained list for 2021/22.
Alex Baptiste, Andy Tutte, Liam Gordon, Nathan Delfouneso, Liam Edwards, Reiss Greenidge, Jay Fitzmartin and Matty Alexander have been told their contract will not be renewed.
Xavier Amaechi has returned to Hamburg after a loan spell and the club has also offered a new contract to Adam Senior and also taken the option of a new deal for striker Finlay Lockett and keeper Luke Hutchinson.
Ian Evatt explained: “Football moves on and this club is moving onwards and upwards,” said Evatt as he looks to keep developing and strengthening his squad over the summer.
“It’s never nice when you’re letting people go and really difficult but we thank everybody for all their efforts.
“Some have played larger parts than others but their attitudes towards training has been first-class and I’ve appreciated and enjoyed working with all of them.
“Some also helped get this club moving back in the right direction last season and were a big influence on that, so we thank them for their contribution and wish them well in the future.”
Wanderers have also confirmed that Matt Gilks has ended his playing career and will now step into a full-time post as goalkeeper coach.
Baptiste spoke to The Bolton News this week to say he wanted to continue his playing career by at least another 12 months.
The defender has had two spells with the club, making more than 100 appearances, and was a major part of last season’s promotion from League Two.
Liam Gordon is arguably the most surprising departure, having made 21 appearances this season.
The 22-year-old full back spent the second half of last year on loan with Dagenham and Redbridge but came back to feature regularly as cover for Declan John.
Deflouneso has been on loan with Bradford City in League Two since January but managed 67 appearances and 10 goals during his time with Bolton.
Midfielder Tutte has missed much of this season through injury, his only appearance coming against Port Vale in the Papa John’s Trophy.
Reiss Greenidge has been on loan at Barnet this season but managed seven appearances for the Whites last year in all competitions.
Liam Edwards missed more than two years of football after suffering a serious knee injury in 2019 but came back to make a late cameo in the Papa John’s Trophy at Rochdale this term, later going out on loan to Southport.
Another member of the famed ‘Junior Whites’ goalkeeper Matty Alexander, leaves Bolton having played two senior games, the last of which was against Bradford City in September 2019.
