http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/9797588/The-Force-will-be-with-us-Death-Star-plans-rejected-by-White-House.html

35000 American people signed a petition supporting the idea for the government to go ahead and start work on building a star wars style death star. The plans have been rejected by the white house though with them saying:

The Administration shares your desire for job creation and a strong national defense, but a Death Star isn't on the horizon. Here are a few reasons:

The construction of the Death Star has been estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000. We're working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it.
The Administration does not support blowing up planets.
Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?

Quite a good response from the white house I reckon!

If you want to read the rest of the white house response you can here...https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/response/isnt-petition-response-youre-looking

Why?

I don't think they actually thought the "death star" would be built.

Its exactly the kind of thing the people of America would do given half the chance.

I've had to abandon my plans to build a TARDIS, the costs are just too high. I could have done it though if I had the cash Rolling Eyes

I tried one of them out when I went to America but it was wobbly and slow. Even the guy doing the demo couldn't do it properly. Maybe one day they will fly properly.

Remember the Reagan administration during the cold war and the Star Wars programme ? Millions of dollars were spent on arming laser guided satellites from space. All went well until they shot at an alien craft ( which they thought was a chunk of ice ). It gave them the swerve and they realised it was too advanced for our technology.

Mind you, it put an end to the cold war when Gorbachev denounced communism with his perestroika and glasnost reforms.

The sound and quality is not best ever but this is the incident. The ice meteorite saw the flash and completely changed it's trajectory. Ice meteorites don't do that.
