Drink driving murderer is perhaps more appropriate when somebody jumps behind a steering wheel and kills someone!

I might add that most go downhill after they leave us!

Nixon's view on things from a couple of hours ago -

Q - Is Alonso's Dad being truthful about Fiorentina or is it just him trying to speed along Dougie offering him a contract Alan?

Nixon - Not been to Florence since December. Not signed. And NOT been offered twice what Bolton would pay. If he had he would be gone.

Q - Good news then, just his Dad being noisy then.

Nixon - Given honest answers there. But nothing decided or finalised yet.

It wouldn't, we get compensation due to his age.

Thats why we had to at least offer him a contract, if he had left with no contract offer from us then we can't claim compensation.

What ever happens with him, Dougie is going to need to invest on our left side of the defence and midfield in the summer.

And our right side. And the middle. And upfront.

I'd like to see us go for Dyer if Leicester don't get promoted. I like the look of him.

Alonso was like a shopping trolley on the Cresta Run when he came to us even though he had some obvious natural talent for going forward. His improvement this season has been very noticeable and nobody knows for sure how good he could become, especially when he learns more about the defensive side of the game especially positioning.
Alonso exemplifies the situation we are in - high risk. If we want top players, we can't afford the finished article so we have to invest in prospects and hope that some of them come good - many won't. Alonso is one of those who looks like he's going to make it and because nobody at the club was prepared to take a gamble on him long-term whilst he was shit, he is free to move on to the best offer he can find without us being adequately compensated. Unless the club gets a crystal ball, it will continue to happen. Gutted he's leaving, but that's football.

Not really, compensation rates can get very high.

Hoiletts compensation was £4 million when he went to QPR.

How many attacking fullbacks with a goal or two in them do you think are out there? Not many .....we will end up with another Robbo or thereabouts.

Kyle Walker would be good.

Do you think Spurs will sell us him?

If they don't it's because Eddie Davies is too tight.

Davies out.

We'll do what we usually do, say we "just missed out" at season ticket deadline.

All true, but you forget one vital thing - he has absolutely no pace. You simply can't make it at full-back these days without pace. Championship is his level.

He's quite nippy when he is going forward in a straight line and controls the ball well when running. Stopping, turning and going backwards are a different story though and that's his weakness. Never said he'd be the greatest but he could learn to compensate for his defensive weaknesses by better positioning. Some of the best defenders ever have been carthorses - they got away with it because they were in the right place at the right time. Alonso won't be an all-time great but he could become a quality Prem League standard player.
