A player can speak with another club 6 months prior to their contract ending.

If Alonso goes, we'll receive training compensation. It will probably be around £200K.

Q: How will compensation for young players under 23 who move clubs be worked out?
A: Fixed rates will be established for each national association, with clubs compensated depending upon which division they are in. For example, a Premiership club which has trained and developed a player who then moves on will receive more compensation than a Conference club in the same circumstances. The fixed rates have yet to be decided.
