Wednesday want Davies before Thursday!

WANDERERS skipper Kevin Davies is being linked with a shock move away from the Reebok before Thursday’s loan deadline after Sheffield Wednesday enquired about taking him to Hillsborough.

Davies, who played under Owls boss Dave Jones during his time at Southampton, is out of contract in the summer as he approaches a decade with the Whites.

At the end of the current campaign, he will have completed 10 seasons, but Davies has not been a regular starter in recent months and could be open to a move away before then.

The Bolton News understands Wednesday are not the only Championship club monitoring his availability.

Wanderers are believed to want the 35-year-old striker to remain until the end of his current deal in the summer.

However, the draw of a return to his home-town in the twilight of his career, with nothing yet on the table as far as a new deal at Wanderers goes, could tempt Davies.

Davies joined the Whites in July, 2003, after being released by Southampton and has gone on to become an iconic figure with Wanderers fans.

In February, he surpassed 400 appearances for the club but a departure at the end of the season could mean the long-serving captain misses out on a testimonial.

i personally would be sad to see him go but if Wednesday are dangling a carrot of a contract in the summer which i presume we won't be, then he has a difficult decision on his hands.

The club should be actively pushing this move.

A highly paid stump off the wage bill and Emma Davies packed off to Sheffield seems just about a perfect deal.

I see Davies in real life quite often and have never told him I am not his biggest fan. He seems a nice enough chap.

I doubt it'll happen.

We'll probably release him in the summer though.

Some championship clubs have 6 or 7 strikers to choose from so although some people would argue SKD is never the right choice for a particular game, I would only be comfortable with this move if we brought others in first.

If Dougie has a replacement striker lined up on loan then he goes with my best wishes.

I wouldn't be too worried if any of our strikers went out on loan at the moment to be honest.

Maybe we should recall Tom Eaves if this move actually happens?

But with Super Kev out of the picture, Eaves could come back and be the best striker at the club since Michael Ricketts! You never know.

Davies is a Blades isn't he, therefore it wouldn't happen. Ask yourself would any of you play for one of our biggest rivals?
