A single to Breightmet (Somerton Road) is now only £1.50, from Bolton Bus Station, compared to £2.95 this time last year!

Train fares are pathetic, why are there so many different prices for the same journey??? Cheapest I have had for Virgin was last month when I paid £25 return, in advance, from Manchester to London but if you pay on the day its a staggering £154 single, and not even first class!!!

But a weekly between Bolton and Manchester is only £26.30 and that is not bad, meaning its only £3.76 day.

Dont forget with a car its not just thr ptice of petrol you have to take into consideration its also the car servicing, possible MOT, car insurance, Motor Vehicle Excise Duty (car tax) then there is parking, and if you are unlucky enough have to pay for on-street parking where you live and any repairs as well!!

I think you should join UKIP. If you were successful I would put you forward for Transport Minister and you would do a better job than the current shower running the show.

I've got a pass and I must say it is a godsend.
I didn't apply for mine right away but something happened last year, which meant I was going to a Manchester hospital every day, at the time the cost didn't really matter but because I was entitled to the pass I eventually got one.

A bus probably does about 8 mpg its very expensive to run i dont think its expensive considering the overheads.

I heard a rumour that the bus passes were being discontinued, do you have any info?

For as l know it's still the same, maybe they'll stop it for rich pensioners in the next Parliament along with the fuel allowance.

Not with the modern buses which are very fuel efficient and in some cases, or in a lot depending on where you live, teh hybrid buses are even more fuel efficient. Bolton has very few of the old monsters nowadays and as such have much of a modern fleet by teh big companies (Stagecoach, First and Transdev) And quite a few of teh buses are actually hybrid - and as such not only more fuel efficient but also less CO2 gasses!!!

8mpg to move maybe 60 people. Imagine how much fuel it would take to move those 60 people the same distance if there were 2 in a car.

You may say that the price is reasonable given that the bus does 8mpg - but £2.50 I paid to go 2 miles - that is outrageous. It is not right. I always thought public transport was for people who couldn't afford a car but it is disgusting to pay that - and have to wait for the damn thing.

But as I said fuel efficiency in modern buses means that they will certainly do a hell of a lot more than 8mpg! Anyway what about teh buses that operate on LPG and the hybrid buses that run off LPG (or petrol) and batteries - they will do a hell of a lot more than petrolled 8 mpg (as was the case in buses older than "w" reg.)

Didn't you just hate those old buses, they always stank of cigarettes, the vibration of the engine under your seat used to want to make you vomit.
I remember vomiting twice on buses after a heavy sesh, luckily the engine was so bloody noisy that the driver couldn't hear me vomiting over the window.
