I've had a friend from my time at sixth form on Facebook for about three months now. I don't like to bad mouth people, but he's the biggest dork in the world. He was always a bit wet and irritating at college - I'll never know how he made it to university - but on Facebook, he's just somet else. Every five minutes he's on a rant about football, totally flawed from start to finish. It's always nonsense and his written English is awful.

I never talk to him personally, but I sometimes think he's slowly destroying me as a person. I can't take his trash anymore. I just can't.

On the other hand, I like to think the unfriend button is beneath me. So I've got a dilemma.

I think everybody's got this sort of character or some variation on Facebook, so tell me about them and how you dealt with the problem.

You need to be cruel to be kind. I'm not big on Facebook and I don't just let any old tosser become my friend - just because we crossed paths in 1993 does not make us friends forever - but when I get pissed off with people, usually for updating their status with shite - I unfriend them straight away.

10 minutes later you get a poke asking why you've unfriended them.

Twats.

I just "hide" their posts from my timeline.

which is basically unfriending without doing it.

I'm at the point now where i have about 10 people who i actually "follow"

Bloody hell. I'm surprised you can cross your legs the amount of time you must get poked.

That's one of my pet hates about facebook, people who add you...they haven't said a word to you on facebook in about 5 months then when you block the bastards they take the huff.

Twats. Very Happy

I think if somebody wants to be my friend because they brushed past me once, it's great. I don't know why people get uptight about that.

One thing I can't bare is slanging matches between dumbo football fans. I'm often tempted to take on this simpleton but refuse to lower myself.

That's often how I feel about you.

But Doffy is intelligent and can recognise a hook when it is dangled.

Because it's weird.

I just don't understand folk who want to contact you years after you left school despite the fact you were never friendly at school.

I now have a standard message for anyone from school that sends me a message or friend request:

Natasha Whittam wrote:Fuck off you freak. Just because you have no friends don't presume everyone else is in the same boat. I have no interest in you, in fact I don't even know who you are, you are insignificant. Now fuck off and don't contact me again.
