You could put forward the opposite argument which is that it's a healthy form of sexual expression and for it to be unavailable is the route to sexual repression, which can ultimately have nastier consequences.

There was no such thing as online porn when Jimmy Savile was growing up. Just saying.

well said.

I think there has been a number of fair points made on this thread. If adults want to watch porn in the comfort of their own homes then it's none of my business. The previous Home Secretary, Jackie Smith and her husband, allegedly subscribed to late night ' hanky panky ' type movies. So what ?

She let herself down by claiming for it on her expenses as 'extra mural' activities. To maintain the moral high ground we were told that she wasn't actually at home on the nights that the adult movies were ordered. Her husband, who wasn't a politician, was a convenient fall guy.

Let's have it right. Sex makes the world go round. It's all part of human nature. It's the way we were designed. It is nothing to be ashamed of. ..

As we get older the desire wanes... but the thoughts are still as strong as ever. The lead may have vacated the pencil but the mind is still active, ( barring Alzheimers or Dementia )

There is nothing dirty or obscene about finding a pretty young filly attractive. I certainly wouldn't find the thought of my daughter being a porn star very appealing but by the same token all of the attractive females who work in the sex industry are someone's daughters.

Pornography and titillation has been around since time immemorial. The only difference is that nowadays it is so much more accessible to the masses because of modern technology.

It's the aggressive nature of some of the porn out there that could get into the mind of a young impressionable lad.

It is far too easy to access it and the internet is swamped with it. It could quite easily be seen as the normal way of how sex is.

A lot of it boils down to parents though and the monitoring of their own children when on the internet.

My younger sister's lad who is 13 is monitored every time he goes on his tablet (or whatever it is) and she has all his passwords to facebook and things like that.

I believe that it should be toned down a bit and it's not like finding mucky mags or a vhs porn tape, it's at the click of a finger on most modern gadgets.

Spot on CD. A friend at work has a 12 year old daughter who shaved her nether regions, because she thought it was what the boys liked. The sad part is that she doesn't even have any sort of boy friend, and certainly is promiscuous. I also read that many boys are pulling out when they are on the vinegar strokes, and finishing on the girl, as thats all they've seen on the films. There truly is a generation of mixed up kids coming through. I don't believe we should be dictated to as to our viewing habits, but I also believe that education, and parental intervention, is crucial.

That should read 'isn't promiscuous'

Twenty years ago this topic wouldn't have been an issue. Nowadays, pornography is too readily available. The internet providers really don't care about any potential damage they could be doing because their Raison D'etre is about making money.

Whenever some poor kiddy is brutally murdered they will roll out the same platitudes about how they will do everything in their power to stop this abhorrent behaviour, but it's all just lip service.

The porn industry is a big business. It has a massive market. It's the worst form of cynicism but it's also reality.

I think porn should be banned unless you opt in...I 100% agree that this should be the default settings for all Internet providers.

Many years ago I typed in Teenage Fan Club when searching for music on Winamp. I was amazed at what came tumbling down!!

Reminds me of that character, Morris Day. He had a stunning wife who was always up for a bit of hanky panky and all he wanted to do was be left alone so he could watch porn movies.

Opt in is good (albeit a bit big brother) but we all know that kids will crack that in seconds. It will prevent "accidental" access to porn, but ultimately children are the responsibility of their parents and if they're allowing their kids to go online, they should be prepared to monitor what they're doing.
Big ask, but I think the fundamental issue is that parents are simply abdicating their responsibility by giving their kids a dangerous toy to play with unsupervised.
There's a prevalent mentality amongst parents which views t'internet more as a pacifier that will give them a break from parenting rather than a shared interest or a toy that needs supervising.
There's no way my dad would have sent me off to play with a gun without going on ad nauseaum about the dangers and showing me how to use it properly - and checking up on me as best he could.
ISPs provide a service which requires user input. Would you blame BMW, Ford or Volvo for drunk driving, boy racers and motorway pile-ups?
It's the drivers/users responsibility IMO and if kids are involved then it's the parents responsibility.

I agree WL. I also doubt how effective these filters are going to be. How do you define porn? Lots of innocent stuff is going to be stopped and some ordinary words like cock, knob, pussy and sex will present problems (known as the Scunthorpe Problem).

I have an adult filter on my computer and occasionally it can be a pain in the arse because you can be looking for something of a non-sexual nature and it still comes up with the adult block.

It can be frustrating but it's still worth it for peace of mind.
