Dougie Freedman admits he owes the Wanderers fans a result in today’s Lancashire derby.
Supporters are still smarting from a 4-1 defeat at Ewood Park in August, which made up part of the club’s worst start to a league campaign for 111 years.
But the Whites boss is eager to make amends with a result against play-off chasing Rovers, and has called on his side to build on last weekend’s thrilling win over Watford.
“We let ourselves down in the second half last time at Ewood Park. We had a go at them and it didn’t quite work,” he said. “You’d be a fool not to look back because I think you can learn things from that performance but we must try to move on, put it in the past, and get a win.
“There will be a few different players out there this time. “Against Burnley in the last derby we gave it a good shot. The result wasn’t there but there was no problem with the effort or commitment.
“Now we want the result to go with it.”
While delighted with the Watford win, Freedman insists there was little difference in the quality of performance from his side compared to recent weeks.
“I feel like we’ve been playing well even before last weekend, we just haven’t been getting those small breaks that you need in this league,” he said.
“I think we played well but not that much more than we have been. It was just when we were asked a few questions we defended better and when we got the opportunities, we were clinical.
“If we do that again today then I think we’ll be on the right path.”
