I have a real life question and I would like genuine responses please...

It was her birthday recently so naturally there are cards up on the window and fireplace. My parents popped round and during the visit my mum had a little look through the cards and best wishes that had been sent.

To me that was something normal, am I wrong?

After they had gone she said asked me why I had not told my mum yo stop looking at the cards and reading them. I said I thought there was nothing wrong with it. She said she thought it was rude and that cards are only meant to be read by the person they are for, and next time it happens she wants md to step in.

However, I feel a bit awkward about stepping in when someone is clearly just trying to show an interest. I feel like it would create an awkward situation where there shouldn't be one.

What do you think? Genuine, helpful answers would be nice.

A bit weird that if you ask me Biggie.

It's normal for people to read what is inside the cards and to see who they are from, what harm is someone doing reading them?

Maybe your mrs was in a bit of a bad mood, or that time of the month?

Or maybe she doesn't like the person who was reading her cards?

I hope I'm not right on the last one as it will cause problems mate.

Get rid! Joking...

I read people's cards and I don't think its rude at all and I'm guessing 99% of people would agree.

How are you supposed to "step in" if you don't agree with the reason you have to do this? Maybe you should suggest that maybe next time if she doesn't want people to read them she should put them safely away from prying eyes!

Have you confronted her about it and told her?

I'm an old fart and even after all these years I've still to figure out how a womans mind works.

Start with the assumption that all women are mad and be pleasantly surprised on the occassions when they are not!

I have to be honest and say that I am already coming to this conclusion and have only been married for around 2 and a half years.

I have noticed a 300% increase in nagging since we tied the knot and sex might as well have gone out the window.

I think that's why I come on here a lot now, It's my hideaway! Very Happy

Yes it's rude to read them,it's no one else's business what personal messages are sent to someone . You would not read their letters if you saw them on the mantelpiece same with valentines cards I caught my brother in law reading our cards and lost it big time I doubt he will be back nosey fucker. Reading other peoples stuff is way out of order.

It's perfectly normal for her to feel that way they are for her, there could be romantic or private stuff written in them that she would be uncomfortable about other people seeing.

When your mum goes to the toilet, does she sneak into your room, and nose through your wardrobe , and under your bed?

Hide the dildos.

Honestly that kind of annoys me as well, when people randomly go through my cards, I'd feel the same way if someone started scrolling through my phone or my emails.

but I wouldn't lose any sleep about it.

I'm 100% with AD on this. They are private, and shouldn't be looked through, at least without asking. As for putting them away, its her house for God's sake ! Although your mum didn't think anything of it, I would still flag it up some time in the next year. I'm sure no offence was meant, and this can be handled easily.
