The arguement for giving Knight one more year.

Freedman made Knight the club captain at the begining of the season - so he rates his attitude and I guess leadership of the players.

In his post match interview Freedman basically said he wants a young tean but it needs a few experienced players in it and then said how "terrific" Knight had played.

We are £175 million in debt so we can't afford to buy anyone good.

Even if we get Knight on a pay cut - it still would probably be more than anybody else would pay him - so he probably would like to stay anyway.

I don't know how this FFP business will pan out but for now we have to keep budgets under control, so resigning Knight (possibly on less wages) would probably be cheaper than signing say Dawson or anybody else half decent.

The arguement against.

He's shit.  Ok maybe not all of the game but we all know that at some point in a game he's going to switch off and that will end up as a goal against us.

So the question is I suppose is Knight the best we could do under the circumstances we find ourselves in?

Would you be happy if Freedman gave him another years contract?

No, he's 33, expensive, slow and a liability. He'll go to the USA

As well as Knight, I expect Eagles, Mears and possibly CYL to leave as well.

No I wouldn't, but I've got a suspicion he will.

If he stays, I will kill Dougie myself.

Slowly......

If we re-sign Zat then I'll DEMAND that Dougie resign because it's clear even to the blindest of bats that Knightmare needs to go.

If they all went I reckon Dougie could build a decent team next season to make a real push for promotion.

I'd prefer to keep CYL if he can find his form because I still rate his ability highly. Mears can do one, his attitude sucks and we're better off without him. Eagles is a quandary for me, I know he CAN do it but his consistency and work rate let him down so on balance given our current finances we may be better off with a cheaper but harder working if less talented replacement. I wish he would hit the kind of form we know he's capable of for a sustained run but think he's shown he won't put in the effort needed to do that. In this division he's more of a luxury player and we don't have the money to keep a man who has four or five mediocre or outright bad games for one good one even if the one is a blinder.

So of the names mentioned about the only one I'd really WANT to keep is Chung Yong Lee but whether we can afford to do that is another matter and I suspect if some sort of offer is made for him he'll be gone.

Good for you mate. Right gang, I'm away to my bed. Nat, any chance of a BEL from Saturday or shall I incur the wrath of Whittam by posting my own in the morning again?  Twisted Evil

If you don't have time or can't be bothered then I'll put one up around ten am tomorrow. Night all.  :good:

To my mind large part of the reason for our success in the last three games is because we have not played Lee and Eagles.

I've believed for over a couple of years now that the team simply had no balance with having to wingers who simply don't help the full backs by tackling back.

It was a weakness that was often exploited - the stats showed just how many goals we leaked each of the last few seasons from crosses.

I'm not saying never to play Lee or Eagles again but use them to 'throw off' the opposition game plan rather than they plan for the weakness in our team to be there each and every match.

What I mean is that if we play the same team every match from now on, then opposition managers will start to set their teams out to stop us - so by playing a winger every now and again will be somewhat unexpected by them.

I would'nt be surprised to see changes to the team for tomorrows match - I think Wheater may be carrying a knock from Saturday for instance, if so I expect Hutton to play and Ream partner Knight at the back.

But then again what do I know, I'm just pleased that something I've been banging on about for a while now - the team being unbalanced by Coyle and continued by Freedman, seems to have been addressed and spectacularly so!

Anyway another win for us tomorrow I hope.

I have it on good authority, Knight has been offered a new 12 month contract on reduced wages, don't  shoot the messenger.
