Daylight robbery. How we got those points is beyond me - and I'm not convinced it was because Dougie put 3 strikers on.

Dougie will claim it as more of his tactical genius no doubt, i can hear it now, we soaked up the pressure and hit them late, a great defensive display and so on.....

Or is it just guesswork?
If you regularly pick players that are usually crap, there's bound to be times where they surprise everybody with a decent performance.
More often than not, when the fans have said "why the hell has he picked him?" they've been proven right.
Each and every time that Trotter has started springs to mind, where he's been dragged off after an hour of doing nothing.

Winnings kind if irrelevant for me today, Hall should have started and We should have seen more experimentation. Although keeping a clean sheet is a positive, it doesn't sound as of we deserved it. This was a good opportunity to try new things - and see if Hall could pick up from last week, wasted in my eyes.

Just got back about 20mins ago, what a piss poor game that was even if we did win it at the death - both sides lacking any quality but IMO Huddersfield will feel annoyed not to take a point as I think a draw would have been a fair result.
Still yet to see what DF sees in Trotter, for a guy of his size he doesn't do enough with it to bully oppositions off the ball or win it in the air. A well taken goal by Mason who should have started the game but I suppose you could say the sub worked wonders.
I just wish that dougie would be a bit more expressive in how he wants us to play for the remainder of the season to give us a bit of hope going into next season instead of trying to grind out results over playing attractive football.

I think Trotter is the Bolton Fellaini. He's big, he's clumsy, he's lazy, he's useless. I think Dougie is playing him in hope that he'll gradually improve and be the player he was at Millwall again. I never saw him play for Millwall, I'm assuming people are right when they say he was great there.
I didn't see or listen to the match. As usual I saw the team and rolled my eyes. I heard Simon Charlton say on the radio that we didn't deserve to win, and that the football was very boring and negative.

Report: Huddersfield 0-1 Bolton
IN BRIEF
Joe Mason struck late in stoppage time to complete a smash and grab victory at Huddersfield Town.
In what was a thoroughly workmanlike performance in blustery playing conditions, Wanderers defended well throughout, limiting the hosts to few clear chances.
And late on, on-loan striker Mason, who had been on the fringes of the game following his introduction as a sub in the 70th minute, was alive in the penalty area to volley home Chung-Yong Lee’s corner and send the travelling Bolton fans into delirium and home with all three points.
TEAM NEWS
The Bolton team showed one change following the previous week’s dramatic 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic at the Reebok.
Robert Hall dropped to the bench, with Neil Danns in from the off.
FIRST HALF
The hosts started the game the livelier. On 11 minutes, one-time Wanderer Danny Ward cracked 30-yard drive against the corner of bar and post.
Up the other end the woodwork would then come to the rescue of Mark Robins’ men.
A wonderful team move set in motion by some superb back-to-goal play by Lukas Jutkiewicz culminated in Chung-Yong Lee thudding Alan Hutton’s low right-wing cross off the foot of the post.
As the half wore on there really was little between the two sides.
Huddersfield probably looked the more likely going forward, though Bolton controlled possession for large spells.
That was bore out in the 23rd minute in a flurry of chances for the hosts on the break.
First, Oscar Gobern’s header from a corner kick was cleared off the line by a combination of Jay Spearing and Jutkiewicz.
Then, moments later, Adam Hammill danced in from the left flank, around Hutton before clipping a deft effort within inches of the far post.
On 33 minutes Wanderers were denied a penalty kick, when Neil Danns stole in front of a hesitant Peter Clarke and stumbled in a tangle of legs. Referee Mr J Simpson waved away the appeals.
Hammill’s delivery from set pieces was a threat throughout. Towards the end of the half yet another one of his corners was headed goalwards by Gobern, with Adam Bogdan reacting well to block at the base of his post.
HALF TIME
The second half resumed in a similar pattern to which the first had ended.
Huddersfield made much of the running going forward, very much penning Wanderers inside their own half, but on the hour mark the tide began to turn.
Hutton galloped down the right and crossed for Liam Trotter, who failed to generate significant purchase on a head that was easy for Alex Smithies.
Trotter was once again involved minutes later, latching onto a flighted Zat Knight free-kick before reaching the byline. His low cross was gathered at the second attempt by Smithies with Jutkiewicz in close proximity.
Joe Mason was then thrown on in place of Trotter as Bolton continued to look more potent going forward.
Huddersfield still carved out opportunities of their own. On 74 minutes Nahki Wells was denied by a ruck a Bolton defenders and goalkeeper Bogdan, who seconds later reacted well to tip over Ward’s glancing header.
The game became somewhat stretched late on, as both sides committed bodies forward in search of a winner – it was Bolton who came up trumps as Mason smashed home front of the away supporters to seal victory.

Freedman praises resolve
Dougie Freedman hailed his side’s determined attitude in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town.
Despite the hosts enjoying a number of opportunities to take the lead including an effort off the crossbar from former Wanderers’ striker Danny Ward, Joe Mason came off the bench to snatch an injury time winner for the Whites.
A dramatic ending to a fiery contest, the manager paid tribute to the resolute mentality shown by his team, believing that the victory is testament to the hard work put in during the course of the season.
“The result illustrates how far we’ve come over the past four months,” he said following the final whistle. “Today’s committed and spirited performance, plus our great skill and defending, means that we deserved that result.
“We can pass a bit better and it wasn’t until the 75th minute that we managed to get our passing game together, but once we did it was fantastic.
“Four months ago, that is a game we would have lost and it shows how much we have developed.
“I felt today that Huddersfield were fantastic and they performed very well - it was something that we were doing at the beginning of the season when we had the performances but the wins just weren’t coming.”
He continued: “I’ve been involved in the Championship long enough as a player and a manager to know that you’re not always going to perform at your highest level, but we did enough to warrant the three points.
“Within the group of players we have at this football club, there’s been an injection of spirit and togetherness.
“I wanted people to come to this football club that want to play for the jersey and that’s why we’ve been performing and picking up the results that we have done over the last three or four months.
“We know we can perform better, but it’s a good feeling knowing that we can go anywhere in this league and I can pick any team who I know are capable of winning games of football.”

Unfortunately winning away flukily 1-0 with a last minute goal will just encourage the negative fucker to keep up with his ridiculously over cautious attitude. He will undoubtedly see it as yet more proof of his God given tactical genius. When do we get to send Trotter home FFS. No doubt Duggie will see him as a must sign for next season.

The best atmosphere I have experienced, singing throughout. Crap game of football though. New chant I heard today, "we're not going down, we're not going up, we're Bolton Wanderers we don't give a f@"k

Must admit that chant did make me chuckle the first time I heard it yesterday.

It could easily have been a home win and probably would have been earlier in the season.Hipster_Nebula wrote:Natasha Whittam wrote:Easy home win, Dougie will blame tiredness for defeat and take a load of positives from the game.
I see what DF is on about in terms of us being more resilient than we were, but with practically a full squad to pick from I'm struggling to see why he went for the narrower formation with Danns and Trotter when playing two wide men worked OK last time out.
Dougie definitely sets up differently home and away and it's starting to bug me. And I'm still struggling to work out what he sees in Trotter. I really hope he doesn't sign him, but I suspect he won't anyway.
