Mills played well last night, but if he's another one who doesn't want to commit then tell him to fuck off.

He's played well for the past year or so, replacing him would be trouble we don't need especially as he's formed a decent partnership with Dervite. Get him signed up.

Wheater could step in and do a decent job I think. We would need to get some back up in though.bwfc1874 wrote:Natasha Whittam wrote:Mills played well last night, but if he's another one who doesn't want to commit then tell him to fuck off.

I agree with you in general but think that a lot of players in the last year of their deal with us may simply have thought it wasn't worth staying under DF. That situation is now very different of course and not only is the football better but the players are obviously much happier with Neil in charge.Natasha Whittam wrote:Mills played well last night, but if he's another one who doesn't want to commit then tell him to fuck off.
Of course I'm not in the know as to what goes on behind the scenes at the club but hopefully there are some sort of efforts being made to go to those players with not long left on their deals and the club is saying 'look we get why you wouldn't extend under DF but Neil's taking us in the right direction so how about sitting down and discussing it again.'
I suspect something like that may well be happening but since we clearly don't have a lot of money to offer to improve deals (if any) and we seem to be keen on getting the overall wage bill down we may not be in a position to make that offer to every player who's in his last year. Lest we forget some of the contracts Owen gave out were branded crazy on this very site and rightly so.
We might not be able to afford to give Mills and the others the same deal twice and if he thinks he can get it elsewhere then who can blame him? At the end of the day a footballer's first loyalty today is to his family like any other employee of any other business. The days of one club players are by and large extinct. They go where the money is just like you or I would if a competitor company came in and offered one of us a significantly better package than our current boss.

If he gets a huge offer elsewhere then fair enough, but Fulham are hardly handing out massive contracts, they ditched the majority of their big earners in the Summer.
I'm just tiring of players pimping themselves out when their contract still has months to run - Chung Lee is a typical example. If Spearing had done what Lee did he'd have been crucified on forums like this.

I agree Nat but that's how football is now. Players have the power and agents more than willing to help them use it.Natasha Whittam wrote:If he gets a huge offer elsewhere then fair enough, but Fulham are hardly handing out massive contracts, they ditched the majority of their big earners in the Summer.

Personally I feel that the money they earn and that clubs pay for their services is insane and obscene especially at the top levels.
I remember when Notts Forest paid 1 million for Trevor Francis who went on to win them the European Cup. Now that's not even an agent's commission or the signing on fee for a mediocre journeyman. Since Bosman football has been turned upside down and the transfer windows actually make it worse not better in my opinion.
The Bosman ruling was right, clubs shouldn't get a fee for someone they don't employ but one consequence of that ruling has been that agents and players are now holding the whip when it comes to contract negotiations and renewals. It sucks but that's not going to change any time soon.

Liverpool interested in Bogdan?
LIVERPOOL are ready to make a shock move for Bolton keeper Adam Bogdon after the stopper frustrated Brendan Rodgers' side in the FA Cup yesterday.
The Hungary international, 27, is out of contract at the end of the season.
And, according to the Mail, Rodgers has been monitoring Bodgan for some time.
He lost his place in the Bolton side this term, with Andy Lonegran being preferred, and has only played in the FA Cup this season.
Liverpool are keen to add competition to Simon Mignolet after he was dropped earlier this season.
He was left out the side as Liverpool went to Old Trafford, with Brad Jones helpless in the 3-0 defeat.
Jones though picked up an injury against Burnley and Mignolet has played ever since.

Until football puts down salary caps (FFP withstanding), there will be the haves and have nots... or the top six in the EPL and the rest of the teams. Baseball has a luxury tax on monies spent by a team. The other leagues, American football, basketball, hockey and "major league soccer" all have salary caps. Baseball charges 17% to 40% as a luxury tax on teams who spend over the limit. Those fines are hefty even for teams like the New York Yankees who make a fortune from their local baseball rights (which is a cable channel which they own). The other leagues negotiate with the players unions on a cap that the teams cannot go over. In my opinion, all of these methods have not stopped the better teams from winning, but has made it easier on the smaller franchises. On the other hand, the NY Yankees have not won in years... maybe attributable to the luxury tax or maybe attributable to bad trades, aging players and poor management in obtaining players for the future. In basketball, the better teams continue to win. In hockey, no one in the United States even cares or knows who is playing. The same goes for Major League Soccer, which has a small audience. Of course there is an exception in MLS for players like David Beckham coming over and playing for a team and exciting a potential new audience for the sport.luckyPeterpiper wrote:I agree Nat but that's how football is now. Until owners stop spending crazy money, there is no chance for a team like ours, with limited resources to get players at a fair price or sell players at value. We, of course, have been saddled with poor management who have demonstrated the axiom of "buying high and selling low." Today we have players like Bogdan, CYL and Mills who are out of contract and the team will get nothing unless we sell them now. We all remember the Gary Cahill fiasco, selling him for half his value. Again, poor management skills were on display as we should have received double what we got. These same skills are on display today where CYL, Mills, Bogdan, Lonergan and a few others can walk in four months without any compensation. Somehow the "haves" seem to be able to buy these players at a discount rate. The have nots have to sell and get what they can. Of course buying players is not easy in a market where player values are out of sight.
Because of our financial problems we were forced not to buy Dawson and Juke when they were allegedly available. I think PG and ED were not prepared to reckon with the future of the club when we were relegated. To get back, we either have to be smart and clever (getting NL is one step towards that), or finding a way to subsidize players of a caliber which could help us move up. Seeing the difference that a good manager makes is apparent to all of us. PG and ED made their mistakes, and now they have to find a way to keep NL from leaving, and probably the only answer is to spend this year or next to get us back to the EPL. Saying that, it will be interesting to see what they will do with the out-of-contract players we would like to keep. That will give us a clue as to the future of our club, unless of course, we find a new owner.

An interesting sidebar to observer's post is this. In the NFL the TV rights are split equally between ALL the teams regardless of position or how many times they appear on screen. Last year's Superbowl winners get the same as the smallest team in the league. Of course the 'Big Clubs' will get more in the way of sponsors and advertisers as well as crowds but the TV rights money is exactly the same across the board. It's not a cure all ills solution by itself but such an approach would make a massive difference to clubs finances in the Championship and below. The NFL itself negotiates a central deal and then the clubs get their share of the money as it comes in.
I'm not so sure a salary cap would work. It was tried in RL and several clubs got around it by paying let's say Joe Bloggs a few hundred quid a week to play rugby but also paid him several thousand a week as a 'commercial representative' or 'communications assistant' because non playing staff weren't included in the cap system. One player got 200 pounds a week as a player and almost ten thousand a week to be a 'club ambassador'. Big clubs could and certainly would find a way around a direct salary cap as they are already skirting FFP.

Wrong there lpp. The salary cap is alive and well in the RL and is creating a situation whereby players are going to Oz and union because it's so low.luckyPeterpiper wrote:An interesting sidebar to observer's post is this. Teams have been docked points for breaching the cap and it's now pretty difficult to say with any conviction that there are paper bags present. The cap in Oz and Union is much bigger than Super League, and I'm not convinced some of the owners want it any different!!!

I thought we had a £5 million float with Barclays for deals like le fondre. We will have probably earned £750-000 if the tie is televised as well with gate receipts.
Why have a float with Barclays if Lennon who has done an amazing job since we got rid of that fucking idiot.
We were going down,I think we owe the fans who got proactive with giant banners I seen on news now and the pitch invasions by some of the fans a week later.
Although I'm not inciting trouble but I think Gartside started to get the message or he would of got us relegated and kept Freedman. So good on the lads who decided to get the banners and invade the pitch.
I seen it on Bolton Wanderers news now, although I never saw the banner as it was told to be taken down it was in the papers the next day and on the internet.
However Lennons going to be pissed if he can't have some money to spend.

Its a really good discussion about matters that interest BWFC supporters and Nutters in general, and yet again its hijacked by attention seeking clowns with their own agenda
