That reminded me I used to bump into Frankie loads of times at the Apollo and various other music venues.

I remember driving past this grumpy old git one time standing at a bus stop near Granada. I think he lived permanently in the Midland Hotel which probably explains the miserable expression.

He did. In fact I think he died there iirc. Speaking of Corrie I once had a pint with Curly Watts in Hough End Hall in Chorlton. His real name was Kevin Kennedy and after he quit the bins he formed a band. He liked a drink did Curly.

Just remembered another footballer who lived nearby and when he retired he used to go into the local football club for a pint every Friday night. He was a diamond geezer and even dished out the prizes at a presentation night for me. Super Sam, ex United, City and Stoke.

Nat Shithouse MBE has a much better ring than Nat Whittam MBE don't you think?

Wyn Davies knocked on my front door selling fancy carpet cleaning machines and Abe Ginsberg of the Black Diamonds was the landlord of my local. I once threatened to put him in a Boston Crab till he came from the serving side of the bar! Great bloke.

I sat near Germaine Greer on the train once, she was making notes (not on me I suspect)

Absolutely not! Much better to stand up well away and let your ale drop.

Am I the only one who keeps reading this title as 'Who have you ever bummed'?

Tigermin's post would take on a whole new meaning.

Courtney Walsh is one of the nicest guys you could meet. Genuine dude with no airs about him. My brother and I were at a Masters/Celebrities football game a few years ago and Walsh and Ambrose both scored spectacular goals. After the game I congratulated him on his goal in passing and he was quite pleasant. We stopped at the side of the car for a minute before we left the grounds only for a black Mercedes-Benz to pull up alongside us with Walsh at the wheel, asking if we were okay! We assured him we were and thanked him to which he shot back "Ok, cool!" tooted us and drove off. Nice guy.

In the school hols ,around 1966/67 (aged about 11/12)I used go and watch the Wanderers players train. Hung around the club car park as the players arrived and followed (stalked) them across to Bromwich Street training ground in pursuit of autographs. So obviously I formed close relationships with the likes of Franny Lee, Wynn Davies, Freddie Hill, Gordon Taylor, Eddie Hoppy, Brian Bromley, Dave Hatton, Syd Farrimond etc. At least them lot gave a shit.

Happy days, I did exactly the same. I wonder whatever happened to scrapbooks?
