Iles has just said that Freedman "famously" picked his teams three weeks in advance and that's why he wasn't averse to dropping someone who'd had a good game in midweek, for the following fixture.

Famously....?

Seriously......?

Did anybody else know this?

not criticising that team selection but I wouldn't exactly call that getting rid of the "big ego's" and picking the team on "form," people like Davies, Eagles, Petrov, Mears, Mills, Afobe had all been awful for varying amounts of time.
How many games did Phillips manage?

It's sad that a man loses his job but he has done it to himself.  A series of daft decisions over the last two years culminating in a head-scratcher of a team selection at Fulham.

I had us for a loss tomorrow but now I fancy a win .....

I suppose Darkside will be picking the new manager again that's the only downside of this.

Interesting times.

I'll be upset if PG rushes into making a selection. Already feel he's panicking in choosing today to let DF go so hopefully he will step back and let things develop a bit before making another move.

Unless, of course, he has already secretly lined someone up - although that would be a surprise to me.

He's certainly very thorough.

On the other thread WL said he'd just give it to JP, what is that if not "rushing"?

JP would be another Sammy Lee appointment but with even less experience.

Imagine JP was, I dunno, Ralph Richards a random coach who hadn't played for bolton before, not a single person would be suggesting him.

They should let Phillips have a few games, if we do well extend it until the end of the season. Absolutely no need to jump into anything concrete so soon.

Although I do spend a bit of time on here, I do wish to point out to those that either think I am a BUM or have 20 kids and on benefits, this is not the case!

Yeah, leave him alone. You can post on a football forum and run an international plc at the same time you know.

There is a danger of going for whoever is flavour of the month in L1 or L2 like Gary Rowett for example.
Last time it was Karl Robinson and Russell Slade.
Karl's MK Dons are currently 4th in L1 and Russell Slade "resigned" from Orient last week after steering them to their current position of 19th and is probably en route to Cardiff.
Problem with the lower leagues is that their success more accurately reflects the level of investment in players rather than than necessarily reflecting the quality of the manager - a relatively small difference in investment can be substantial in terms of quality at that level.
Uwe Rosler was king of the lower leagues a few seasons ago - now he's doing an OK job with Wigan.

Whoever we get will have to work with this squad so the criteria are simple.

Is that the same Wigan who are 4th bottom, with a 4 point advantage over us?

So you want a manager from the PL/Championship merry-go-round?

Risk with absolutely any appointment.

I'm just a fan of giving someone who's busted their arse in the lower leagues and had success over a former player who's done absolutely nothing in the game, pretend JP never played for Bolton... still keen? Didn't think so.

Chris Hughton is fanciful but is definitely the best name on there.

I would also see the logic behind an arse kicker, old head appointment too.

But I what do I know, seriously, I thought DF was a cracking appointment.

The way events unfolded in the past couple of days, it makes me wonder if Girthside was happy to let Freedman stick around but was ultimately overruled by the shareholders.

With the international break ahead, we have the opportunity to seize the extra time to interview more potential candidates and get the right man for the job installed for the Birmingham game.
But... instead, I'm sure we can expect a protracted recruitment process, with several public rejections before the next bright-eyed, gullible sucker is appointed.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there still isn't anyone in place for the Charlton game or beyond. It's the small-time, sluggish mentality of senior management at our club that needs to be eradicated. They're probably slapping each other on the back over a pie and a pint somewhere and discussing the idea of putting a date on their calendars for next Thursday so they can draw up their wish list.

The urgent and necessary action needed wasn't just in the firing of Freedman. It's getting the next appointment 100% right, and quickly. Otherwise we'll be up to our necks in it.

I'd disagree with that fin, we need to get it right this time, and if that takes weeks, so be it, no point rushing it this time, and it needs to be a group decision not just Gartsides.
