Agree Rooney was off his game last night, but I think the England team needs some perspective. After the "Golden Generation" finally ran it's course without delivering anything RH had to start again with youngsters that are not the most gifted. Players like Sterling, Lallana, Chambers, Wilshere etc may be competent enough in the PL but they are no more than average in terms of the world scene so we shouldn't expect too much of them, especially as they were so comprehensively humiliated in the World Cup.
Perhaps the only thing they have going for them is that it's a young team and they are getting blooded early in what is a relatively easy group. Maybe a little confidence and a year or two more experience and they'll be an average England team again - i.e. average.
