Let's just imagine for a minute that you've found a time machine at the back of your shed.

But it's a cheap "pay as you go" one and it's only got enough credit left on it for five return trips.

Where and when would you go?

Mine would be:

1. Dinosaurs: Nobody knows what colour they were, as all we've got to work on is fossilized bones, so I'd go back to the Jurassic era and take pictures.

2. Ancient Rome at the height of The Republic: Just to see what it was like and suss out if all that ancient democracy really worked and whether or not we could learn anything useful.

3. Bolton around 1900: I've always been fascinated with looking at old pictures of the town and it'd be interesting to walk up Chorley Old Rd to Doffcocker and have a pint in the original pub and then head over to Smithills to look at the Hall and the Coaching House.

4. Dallas, grassy knoll, 22/11/63: For obvious reasons.

and finally

5. This:

Just so I could follow her, suss out what's she's doing and put to bed once and for all, all the stupid talk of her using a mobile phone in 1928 that gets posted by stupid people on the internet.

What about you lot?

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

This one requires a bit of thought. Dinosaurs is a good shout, I would definitely do that. Maybe stone henge just to see once and for all how they actually did it and where the stones came from. Aside from that I'm not sure really. Maybe ancient Egypt.

I'd like to go back to Boston airport on 9/11 and point out a few people to the authorities.

It'd be great solving historical mysteries such as:

Who was Jack The Ripper?

Was Marylyn Monroe really murdered?

Did the ball cross the line in 1966?

How did they transport those mahusive slabs of rock all the way from Wales to Stonehenge 4,500 years before the invention of steel toe-cap boots?

And if chocolate didn't arrive in Europe until 1504 what was the War Of The Roses really about?

It's a time machine, not a "Miracle Box"......

Let's keep this discussion serious, please.

I wonder if you know why there was never a public house on Chorley Old Rd from the Kings Arms to the Doffcocker Bread?
There was a alcohol free covenant put on the land by a guy called Squire Ashworth many years ago. Apparently the Tory club at Captains Clough didn't qualify because it was a members club!!

I never knew that - cheers.

And until you pointed it out, I'd never even realised that there were no pubs in that area, but it's true, isn't it?

Good job they didn't have a similar arrangement on Halliwell Rd.

In fact, I think they more than made up for it!

I remember Pedro's on Halliwell Rd. He used to serve food and one of my mates copped him buying dog food from Asda. On further investigation it was revealed that he hadn't got a dog!!! Oh dear?

Yes, you are quite correct, there are no pubs in that distance, which is quite unusual.
When I was about fourteen or fifteen and just getting interested in the magical behaviour modification created by supping beer I asked my mother about it and I think she stated it was within  the documentation that accompanied the house deeds.

I don't have a shed so I guess I'll never have a time machine now.  Sad

What about a time machine that went forward?

Would anyone want to see what is in the future?
