WANDERERS’ incredible exertions on the road may catch up with them this weekend at Shrewsbury Town.

Phil Parkinson is keeping a close eye on the fitness of four key players showing signs of wear and tear after the dramatic midweek win over Oxford United.

Adam Le Fondre, Darren Pratley, Jay Spearing and Mark Beevers are all being monitored by the club’s medical staff, their involvement at Greenhous Meadow in doubt as The Bolton News went to press.

Le Fondre was suffering from blurred vision after a clash of heads with Oxford defender Chey Dunkley in the first half at the Kassam Stadium but has not suffered from concussion.

Pratley – still only three games returned from a seven-month lay-off – felt tightness in his hamstring on Tuesday night and was forced off the pitch but the problem has been put down to fatigue.

Spearing complained of soreness in his calf, which led to his late exit in the game, and Beevers suffered pain in his knee. Both players will see physio Matt Barrass again tomorrow before being given the go-ahead to train.

It is thought none of the injuries are serious but after earning four successive wins, three of which were away from home, in the space of 10 days, the club are being careful not to risk any serious injuries.

An opportunity could present itself for on-loan striker Chris Long after an impressive appearance off the bench against Oxford.

Parkinson feels the Burnley man can have an impact on the final eight games of the campaign.

“Longy has had a bit of a funny period with us, he came in and scored, then got sent off, then got an injury,” he told The Bolton News. “But he looked so dangerous when he came on at Oxford.

“We had to change the shape in the second half because we were getting over-run a little bit and I felt he made the difference.

“Maybe he should have squared the one towards the end but he got us up the pitch and really gave the right-back a torrid time. He has got that pace and offers something different.”

Most recent clip I could find of a Shrewsbury match - away at Chesterfield two weeks back - Shrewsbury in red -

Also a clip of former Wanderer Joe Riley about playing Bolton this weekend -

Note - both video's are pretty dull to watch imo - but they are both only a couple of minutes long if you've nothing better to do with your time!

Ref watch: Sebastian Stockbridge to oversee Shrewsbury Town trip

Sebastian Stockbridge will take charge of Wanderers’ Sky Bet League One trip to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

Involved in the game professionally since 2011, the Tyne official was based in the Blue Square Premier for two seasons before being promoted into the Football League.

Mr Stockbridge has overseen two Whites matches so far this season, running the rule over Bolton's home clashes with Southend United and Coventry City.

The man in the middle for 34 games so far this season, dishing out 140 yellow cards and seven red cards.

Steven Plane and Matthew Jones will run the line while Graham Salisbury is the fourth official.

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

By all accounts, Shrewsbury's achilles heel is their inability to deal with aerial threats in the box. As unattractive as it may seem, bombarding their penalty area with long balls and crosses may be the way to go in this one. Three points is what's important now, any which way we can get them.

Bolton have won their last 3 away league games. #bwfc last won 4 in a row from Dec 2000 to Jan 2001.

Goodbrand stats.

Preview: Five talking points ahead of Shrewsbury Town v Bolton Wanderers

1. An unbeaten March

Avoiding defeat this weekend would mean Bolton have navigated the month of March without defeat. It would be only the second time this season Phil Parkinson's men have managed this achievement having come through the month of August without a Sky Bet League One defeat.

Starting the month with a draw against AFC Wimbledon, the Wanderers then overcame Fleetwood, Gillingham, Northampton and most recently, Oxford United.

Scoring 15 goals and conceding six, it's been a memorable month for the travelling White Army. Let's hope that continues at Shrewsbury.

2. Four away wins on the bounce

Bolton fans have travelled far and wide this season and recently, they've been rewarded for their travels.

The 4-2 scoreline on Tuesday night ensured Parkinson's side became the first Wanderers team to score four goals or more in three consecutive away games. Before this run, Bolton had scored four goals in four of the previous 189 games.

The goal that secured the victory, scored by Josh Vela meant the midfielder became the first academy graduate to reach 10 goals since Kevin Nolan who found the net 11 times back in the 2005/06 season.

3. Injuries

There is, unfortunately, some bad news for Bolton this weekend, this comes in the shape of injuries to Darren Pratley, Jay Spearing, Mark Beevers and Adam Le Fondre.

All four have played their role in helping the Trotters maintain their promotion push, however, they all came away from Oxford with injuries leaving them a doubt for this weekend.

Rotation will be called upon this weekend to ensure we come back to BL6 with all three points.

4. Filipe Morais

Filipe Morais has more league goals and assists in 2017 than the likes of Neymar, Benzema, Muller and Ozil. The makeshift wingback has certainly hit the ground running after joining the Club in early February.

The former Bradford man has registered nine assists in a Bolton shirt, a number that puts him fourth on the overall tally for Sky Bet League One.

His two goals have also proved important with his first, the winner against Northampton, while his second put us on our way to victory against Oxford United.

Can Filipe contribute towards yet another goal? We certainly hope so.

5. Another outstanding away following

Bolton Wanderers fans deserve a huge amount of credit for the support they've shown the lads this season.

Even manager Phil Parkinson has praised the incredible away support you've provided this season, citing after both the Gillingham and Oxford trips how highly valued your support is.

You continue to go above the call of duty and this weekend sold out the allocation for Shrewsbury meaning the lads will be backed by 1,500 supporters.

Thank you, from the players and staff.

...if he plays!! He's one of the ones that needs a rest because he ran around for about 20 minutes last Tuesday evening and then banged his head. And so he might not be ready for todays match.

He'll play, suspect Pratley will drop out if anyone, but can't see Parky messing too much with a winning side, seven day rest after this one.

I hope Pratley does play as he has made a considerable difference to the midfield.
Can you imagine saying that a couple of years ago!!

Having a player with a big engine that can close down space (Holden, Muamba for example) changes the dynamic for team members and lets them play more freely. Always thought Pratley was essential to this team despite being reckless in the challenge sometimes (see Pratley's engine is the difference thread) and if he has to be rested I'm worried that the shape will revert back to us sitting deeper and inviting more pressure - which has never worked for us in the past.

He'll certainly be needed for the big away clashes at Southend and Scunny so I just hope we can get through the games against the relegation battlers without him. Karacan is fine but he just doesn't have the engine that Prats has.
