Don't know much about these, but if we're to avoid the drop we should be beating these teams at home.

2-1 Bolton.

I fancy this one for us too. They are sitting midway in the league and they have only scored 20 goals so far this season which apart from us is the worst scoring record so far along with MK Dons who have the same.

It will be a close game and I think we will nick it.

1-0

As Martin said we have to win this kind of game, if we are to stand any sort of chance of staying in League One next season.

A point at Sunderland is great, but if we don't start picking up three points in home games then we are doomed to League Two next year.

After a rigorous fitness test, I should be about ready for this one, although, if you encounter a man climbing up to the West Stand with the aid of two small boys and a cattle prod, give me a wide berth.

3-1 Whites.

One interesting stat is that Bolton have lost only 2 of their last 6 games!

Preview: Shrewsbury Town (H)

The Whites play host to Sam Ricketts’ Shrewsbury Town tomorrow afternoon in a Sky Bet League One encounter at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Shrewsbury are currently 11th in the table on 31 points.

The Shrews come into the game following a 2-1 defeat at home to Rotherham United on Thursday but have won two games out of the last three.

Team News

In his pre-match press conference with bwfc.co.uk, Wanderers manager Keith Hill did not allude to any potential knocks picked up from the Sunderland away draw.

Head to Head

Wanderers and Shrewsbury have met 23 times in their history, with the first game coming in November 1971, with the Shrews taking that one 1-0.

The Whites have edged this fixture so far, winning 13 of those games, drawing three and losing seven.

Keith Hill’s men have won the last seven outings against Shrewsbury.

Match Coverage

As usual, match updates will be provided by the club’s official twitter account (@OfficialBWFC). We will keep you up to date with the action to ensure you don’t miss a kick – delivering a match report shortly after the final whistle with post-match reaction from manager, Keith Hill.

Live commentary will also be available by the iFollow BWFC channel (subscribe via the website), with the BBC Radio Manchester team providing the coverage.

Betting Odds

Wanderers come into the game as betting underdogs at the time of writing, according to Sky Bet, being priced to win at 23/10.

Shrewsbury are favourites at 5/1, with a draw priced at 2/1.

Man in the Middle

Saturday’s game will be officiated by Michael Salisbury, with Helen Edwards and Geoffrey Liddle and Fourth Official Matthew Perry completing the referee line-up.

Salisbury has officiated 19 matches so far this season, with his latest being in a 1-0 away victory for Accrington Stanley against Blackpool.

So far this season he has handed out 58 yellow cards and eight red cards.

Currently in his fifth season as a referee, Salisbury has never refereed The Whites.

Key Man for The Shrews – Fejiri Okenabirhie

The main man leading the line for Sam Ricketts’ side on Saturday will be 23-year-old forward Fejiri Okenabirhie

Okenabirhie joined The Shrews from Dagenham and Redbridge back in June 2018, after starting his career at Stevenage.

The former England ‘C’ international spent a long time in non-league football whilst on loan from Stevenage, before signing permanently for the Shrews in 2018.

Tough game and as KH says they’ve got some quality players at this level, but hopefully we’ll get the result we need.
As an aside I hope Sam R gets a good welcome as although he wasn’t the most high profile signing we made at that time he turned out to be Mr consistently reliable In several positions when everyone around him was cocking it up and he certainly taught Cahill a thing or two. Top all round player and did a great job for BWFC.

Report: Bolton Wanderers 1-1 Shrewsbury Town

TEN-MEN Bolton Wanderers hung on to claim a point against Shrewsbury Town after Thibaud Verlinden’s stunning first-half goal was cancelled out by Daniel Udoh after the restart.

Jason Lowe’s straight red 13 minutes into the second-half saw Wanderers up against it for the remainder of the game but they held firm against their numerically advantaged opponents.

Manager Keith Hill named an unchanged line-up for the third game in succession as Wanderers entertained Shrewsbury Town at the University of Bolton Stadium for their final match of the decade.

The visitors had the upper hand in the early exchanges and were looking to steal an early advantage.

Josh Earl was on hand to clear Ryan Giles’ low centre which was destined for Shaun Whalley who was lining up to shoot.

Remi Matthews raced off his line to clear a loose ball with his head but it only went as far as Whalley who fired wide from 30 yards.

Wanderers received an early blow when they were forced to withdraw captain Liam Bridcutt. Adam Chicksen came on in his place with Earl moving to partner Jake Wright in the centre of defence.

Chicksen was soon involved and his crunching challenge enabled Verlinden to race away down the left to deliver a stunning cross what found Daryl Murphy. The Irishman, though, was off target with his header.

Wanderers were stepping up, and Verlinden’s short corner to Ronan Darcy allowed the young midfielder to fire in a wicked drive which was pushed over the bar by Max O’Leary.

Josh Emmanuel then found himself in space on the edge of the box but his firmly struck effort on target was deflected for a corner kick.

From the resulting corner, taken by Darcy, Daryl Murphy rose the highest but his guided header was narrowly off the far post.

Joe Dodoo then picked up a loose ball and surged towards the edge of the box before seeing his deflected shot land into the arms of O’Leary.

Wanderers dominance finally paid off just after the half hour mark when Verlinden was played in by a lovely ball from Darcy. And with O’Leary off his line, the Beligan expertly lobbed the keeper from distance to give Wanderers the lead.

Wanderers were eager to double their advantage and O’Leary came to the rescue for the visitors when he got to a Luke Murphy centre that was aimed for Dodoo at the far post.

Matthews was pressed into action just a minute after the restart when he punched clear a cross into the box.

Aaron Pierre then headed over the bar after connecting with le left-hand sided cross from Scott Golbourne.

The equaliser came from Udoh when he side footed home after Whalley’s initial shot had been blocked.

Dodoo headed wide after reaching Darcy’s lofted cross into the box.

At the other end, Jason Lowe produced a smart block to keep away Love’s cross at the near post.

Wanderers were reduced to ten men just before the hour when Lowe was shown a straight red for a challenge on Ollie Norburn.

Shrewsbury, with their numerical advantage, were sensing blood and almost immediately after Lowe’s dismissal Giles cut in from the right to unleash a strike that went narrowly wide of target.

Pierre spurned a glorious chance to put the visitors in front when his unchallenged header at the back post, off Whalley’s corner, went over the bar.

Whalley had another corner shortly afterwards which was floated towards Norburn at the far post, but his well-struck volley was blocked well by Adam Chicksen.

Ethan Ebanks-Landell then met a corner from Whalley but his header was comfortably wide of goal.

Ro-Shaun Williams then fired the ball over from inside the box after Aaron Pierre’s header was cleared in front of the line by Dodoo.

With just three minutes to go, Matthews made a huge double save to keep Town at bay when they looked set to get a winner.

Sam Ricketts’ men thought they had that elusive winner deep into injury time when they got the ball in the back of the net but a linesman’s flag ruled out the effort for offside.

My knee held out, but my heart nearly didn't. Did well to battle it out for a point in the end. No idea what Lowe was thinking.

What an idiot Lowe was, he should be fined the maximum for his ridiculous challenge.

And as for the "fans" that applauded him off, I really do despair. Embarrassing.

Lowe should apologise to the team for his stupid and reckless challenge. It was right in front of where i sit and it was high and 2 footed with studs up. His stupidity could and should have cost us getting anything from the game.

The rest of the team deserve credit for holding out for a point, Matthews pulled off a fantastic double save to stop us going behind. I do hope we don't let Chicksen go now as he's always been a decent player and did well today as well.

It's the kind of challenge that is so fucking stupid and needless, it's like he just couldn't wait to get home and play with his new toys off Santa. Stupid twat.

On a brighter note, another respectable result considering.
