As long as you choose mine, that's fine.

Nope - kids grown up and no grandkids yet, so I've managed to avoid it.
I am, however, an expert on The Lion King and The Little Mermaid and have been since about 1995 (I did an extensive home-learning course on them both every Saturday and Sunday morning for about 18 months.).
And for Christ's sake, don't let Boncey pick the avatars......it won't end well.

Since I like redheads and Bonce likes... you know, I've come up with a compromise.

He didn't look like that when I saw him on the occasion of my heartwarming, gently humourous personal anecdote

I can't wait to hear this heartwarming, gently humourous personal anecdote. I'm pretty sure Bonce is equally anxious, if not more so, to hear this heartwarming, gently humourous personal anecdote. You tease, Chairmanda!

I'm late to the party again - sorry but real life gets in the way sometimes.
For what it is worth the following is what I THINK may have happened.
The start is Bread putting up a humongous avatar picture.
I can only assume that this avatar looked ok on Breads pc/laptop/pad/phone/whatever - otherwise I don't see why he simply didn't bin it and chose another?
Anyway, it would seem at that point in time we only had one mod who could 'unblock' the site - by removing said avatar - which was done.
Now some of our mods whish to remain anonymous - their privilege - but I guess that also meant that they could not post something up on the forum, saying why they removed the avatar - without giving themselves away. They of course could have pm-ed but there must have been a reason why they didn't.
The bottom line being that Bread got pissed off as why his avatar was taken down without explanation.
I don't think it was a coincidence that his new avatar was of someone famous for not liking censorship.
It's not really a large leap to imagine that the mod in question saw that as a direct dig at him - and they reacted by taking that avatar down too.
Again nothing was said and thus why this thread was started.
To my mind all this was born out of a misunderstanding (and mistrust) between the two.
I think it is fair to give people involved an explanation as to why they've been modded.
I think it is also fair that if people put a great deal of effort into the site and don't want it to be known that they have 'backroom' powers that their wishes on this matter should be respected.
How you can do both at the same time however I don't know - and hence the problem.
At the end of the day this site is about having fun.
The people who founded Nuts, and those who have since joined the backroon staff to run the site want a laugh out of it just as much as those of you who post (or simply just read and lurk in the background - why not join in chaps?).
Sometimes it goes wrong.
People feel as though they've been wronged (maybe rightly, maybe wrongly) and kick back.
That's the last thing we want - but we are after all only human and fallible.
Why Bread put the big avatar up and didn't seem to notice or do anything about it - who knows?
It was rightly taken down but without any explanation - that solved the immeadiate problem but led to the response of a second avatar having a pop at censorship - which in turn created another response of removing it - again without explanation.
All really easily avoided - but with a recent history between the main protagonists - I think they started off by assuming the worst of each other and acted accordingly.
Fwiw I think for the benefit of the site the key players need to clear the air between themselves away from the public forum and hopefully find some mutual understanding to move forward.
Otherwise there's going to be another coming together sooner or later and the longer it goes on the less forgiving and more entrenched in their views of each other you will become.
