Funny you should say that, I gave up on CSI about 4 seasons ago, but started watching it again when Ted Danson joined the team. I now think it's a lot better!

Anyone catch the Mighty Mississipi with Trev McDonald last night?

Quite an eye opener on how little has been done since Hurricaine Katrina hit New Oreleas.

Really? Your views on last night's episode would be appreciated. Just the logistics element alone was farcical. For example the way that the wishing well was just minutes away from the helicopter (which had been travelling south for at least 30 minutes), the gang and everybody in CSI who moments earlier had been in their office in Las Vegas.

I haven't actually watched last night's episode, I'll do that tonight - although from what you say I'm not expecting much! My opinion on the latest series was based on previous episodes.

I thought Derek was quite good to be honest. Not Rickys best but i've seen a lot worse.

I'm a big big fan of Gervais, loved the office, loved extras, love his podcasts, i like Idiot abroad. (not big on his standup)

but i thought Derek was well.... frankly, boring. It wasn't especially funny, it wasn't dramatic, it wasn't touching, it wasn't clever or witty or anything IMO.

and sadly i think Gervais was the worst part, without him you'd have had a nice little comment on the nursing home.

I watched a couple of DVD's on holiday. Two westerns called The Unforgiven and Open Range. It's a long time since I have watched a western but I enjoyed them both.

Dunno if anyone else is interested in US politics but there's a critically acclaimed dramatisation of the 2008 US Presidential Election campaign on Sky Atlantic called 'Game Change' tonight at 9pm.

I hate Sarah Palin with a passion. I hope it portrays her accurately. She is like the Antichrist of Western politics. If she ever gets into the White House I will be fearful for the future of civilisation.

I completed The Wire last night and am amazed by how brilliantly made it is from start to finish.

I watched the first episode of the West Wing this afternoon, which has the potential to entertain, but The Wire just makes it look cheap.

I know how you feel. For me The Wire is the best series I have seen. I am about half way through the first series of West Wing (a box set present) but it doesn't really grab me. It's highly rated by many people so I am persevering with it but if it doesn't improve I don't think I will bother with the rest of the series.

The second season of the wire is probably as close to perfection as TV has come, along with Six Feet Under seasons 1,2,4 and 5 Mad Men season 2 and The X Files season 3.

Series 2 was also my favourite.

My least favourite was Series 4 where it was much about the education system and I also got a bit impatient with the politics in the programme by that point.

It's not easy to get in to it, especially because the dialogue is hard to follow, but it really is worth the effort. Try giving it a second chance.
