Didn't like any of their solo stuff at all, i have three favorite songs of theirs 1. The Boxer 2.Scarboro fair 3, America.Soul Kitchen wrote:Both had great voices in my opinion and a great, if somewhat easy on the ear, duo.Angry Dad wrote:Who had the best voice Paul Simon or Art Garfunkle.
Some wonderful songs that cemented the joys of the late sixties and early seventies for me.
Never quite cut it solo, certainly Garfunkel didn't, and Simon only with Graceland. To me on Graceland, Simon seemed to have had his right arm amputated!

Just been listening to some Humble pie a great cover of the stones Honky Tonk Women by stevie marriot and Natural Born Woman a great boogie number but cant make up my mind if they took the guitar from the Beatles Get Back or a chuck berry song.

Frampton and Marriot were a great pair of front men in their own right, no surprise then when Frampton decided to go his own way, probably a clash of egos as often befell bands both then and now. Marriot wrote some great stuff and coincidentally 30days on the road was played last Friday on the Planet Rock breakfast show.
As for the Beatles guitar bit, I always thought the Small Faces were more of a singles band than an album one and as such suspect Marriot would listen and be influenced by stuff that hit the charts and hence a possible link.
So to America, that for me was also a fave S and G, taken to higher level later by the band Yes.

Excellent RT the voice is just the same as ever no trouble at all with high notes ,amazing really, did a lot of early 60's stuff which was great, words- first of may- To love somebody-New york mining disaster- had a great female singer to do all the stuff like Guilty and Islands in the stream.Did Gotta get a messege to you on his own which was sad without Robin and I started a Joke which had robin come on screen to do his main part which brought the place down and had all the women in tears. Loads of old stuff and ballads not much disco at all staying alive brought the place down and the high notes hurt my ears he,s still got it. Two fights broke out either side of me over people wanting to dance or sing along and others objecting as they just wanted to watch and listen, he finished with my favorite Immortality which he reckons is the best song they wrote, great night. Back in two weeks for Peter Gabriel.Reebok Trotter wrote:How is Barry's voice holding up?Angry Dad wrote:Off to the O2 now to see a great concert tonight, clue time, [Have you seen my wife Mr Jones]

One for AD. I always liked the Bee Gees. Great harmonisers and they wrote an awful lot of material for other artists. I loved it when they made a fool of that trumped up tosser Clive Anderson when they walked off his show. What a twat they made him look.
