Thanks for the tip. Smile

I was living in London at the time so various college gigs, the Roundhouse, Marquee and the Royal Albert Hall* are more likely.

* they had some amazing gigs. I saw Hendrix there and two nights of CBS artists including Santana and Chicago as part of a special promo to launch their "Rock Machine Turns You On" campaign. Remember that?

I don't remember them, I was at school when Hendrix died, albeit my last year. I suspect you may have been having senior moments a couple of years before me?Wink Very Happy

Not to worry, carry on with the tip, never too old to learn new tricks despite what they say!!Very Happy

I actually remember where I was when I learned Hendrix had died. I was walking down the Aldwych (in London) when I saw a newspaper billboard saying Hendrix had died.

Hendrix and Miles Davis are still for me the best music I have ever heard.

Hendrix did some good stuff for me, Band of Gypsys was played regularly in music sessions with my mates just before his death, but in years since his death there has been some top guitar players thanks to the furrow he ploughed. One of my faves, another live hard, die young, was Duane Allman. The stuff he did with Pickett and other session stuff, particularly Loan Me A Dime with Boz Scaggs was sublime, not to mention the early Allmans' stuff. Much closer to home was Rory Gallagher, who I got interested in when he was with Taste. I read a book by his bassist Gerry McAvoy who stated that Rory must have been quite frightening to younger gig goers cos of his high energy! I can vouch for that, one of my mates used to say on the occasions we saw him that he always puts a sweaty gig on!!
As for Miles, I have one album that gets played at least once a year on a foreign holiday because it sets the scene nicely, Kind of Blue, great album, and different to stuff I normally listen.

I was in Smthills school playground during morning break when my best mate told me Hendrix had been found dead overnight. It came as a massive blow at the time as I had only just got into him and had been overdosing heavily on Band of Gypsies at the time. One of my favourite guitarists at the time was Tony McPhee of The Groundhogs. "Thank Christ For The Bomb" was a perennial favourite in the 6th form common room at dinner times and still sounds great to these ears today.
As regards senior moments, mine tend to be a bit more awkward and worrying. For most of the time I can remember things from 40 or so years ago with startling clarity and almost deadly accuracy,( Zappa at The Oval being the main exception) but I struggle for the life of me to remember important things that have happened to me within the last few days. Think the old S.T. memory is on it's way out.

Bought a few lp's yesterday from different charity shops, Diana Ross, The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel and another I just bought because of the Sleeve, never even heard of them, The  Galliards.

Just think the Album cover is a work of Art in its own right, sometimes.

Some great covers on LP's in the past which lose definition in the CD format. Court of The Crimson King springs readily to mind as does Genesis' Nursery Cryme.

Nothing wrong with the original cover of Electric Ladyland either.

Or Blind Faith? Or am I emulating Jimmy Saville?

That Blind Faith cover was a bit creepy even then. Now it would be banned, which is an over reaction. The media seem to be obsessed with the threat that paedos pose to our children.

That cover caused a bit of a stink then never mind now. However it drew attention to the album and no doubt any extra sales generated.
As a side issue why did children always get photographed holding an aircraft in those days when they visited a professional photographer?

I always loved the cover to "We're Only in it For The Money." It lampooned Sergeant Pepper and had pictures of The Mothers(surely the world's ugliest ever group)in dresses.

As a piece of pop art the Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers cover complete with real zip takes some beating.

Its early Saturday morning, I've just finished a bottle of Chardonnay and have moved on to some cans of Spitfire. This is wonderful.

Wilko Johnson was diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer last year, a fact he took with much calmness. He immediately carried on gigging and announced a farewell tour and carried it out. After completion he got pissed off sat at home so did some more. The reason I mention this is that it's about eight months ago and the prognosis was eight to ten months and the Mirror today have done a nice article about him. To the uninitiated, Wilko was the guitarist in the band Dr Feelgood and the executioner in the Game of Thrones, he always appeared to be mad but underneath that exterior is an intelligent and down to earth chap. Having seen him perform on a few occasions, my mate saw him at Colne recently, he was always entertaining.
Apparently he's been on posters and advertisements about cancer awareness and has stated his happiness at being able to read his own obituaries by making his condition public.

Both had great voices in my opinion and a great, if somewhat easy on the ear, duo.
Some wonderful songs that cemented the joys of the late sixties and early seventies for me.
Never quite cut it solo, certainly Garfunkel didn't, and Simon only with Graceland. To me on Graceland, Simon seemed to have had his right arm amputated!
