In this case surely you can see that the trial is a foregone conclusion ? Everything he did was planned and calculated. From wearing body armour to dyeing his hair red to make him look like the Joker. He was caught with the smoking gun and there can be no excuse which can negate this terrible loss of life.

You are right about me deciding his guilt. He is guilty and he did shoot all those innocent people. The police are not looking for a second gunman so if he didn't kill them, who did ?

BBC profile link of him below, which is quite interesting.

Seems he wasn't that weird that anybody thought too much about him and that he had a good brain in his head - he gained a bachelor's degree in neuroscience in 2010.

Sounds as though it all went pear shaped a couple of moths ago for him though - drugs perhaps? (my thoughts not the BBC's).

Seems fairly certain he did it - his apartment was booby trapped - pre-meditated.

If I was the father of any of the people killed by him - particularly the six year old girl - I'd be wanting to see him face the death penalty. It's hardly likely that he will ever be allowed back into society so why should society have to pay to keep him alive for the next 50 odd years?

That's how I view things whether people like it or not.

The most frightening aspect of all this is how he was allowed to buy four guns in the 60 days leading up to the attack. He is also alleged to have purchased 6,000 rounds of ammunition on the internet! Shocked

How many more innocent Americans have to lose their lives before tighter gun control is introduced ?

Don't know if you're taking the piss now with that last sentence. Obviously he shot those people. There's a difference between acknowledging he shot those people and him being guilty in a court of law of murder. Guilt is a technical relationship between all the evidence, all the other circumstances of the case, and the law.

Which is why you saying you're not interested in the circumstances and his defence but you believe in fair trials is contradictory.

In America, shooting and killing someone in cold blood in a pre-meditated manner is classed as murder in the first degree.

This twat is no different than Anders Brevik but they won't plead guilty because they want the worldwide publicity that a trial brings. These kind of individuals revel in their notoriety.

Guilty as charged, M'lud.

The key here is "in cold blood" and "in a pre-meditated manner" - neither of which have been established with the legal rigour of a criminal trial. He could have been insane, he could have been co-erced or blackmailed, the truth will out.

Another terrible tragedy in America today. Mass shooting at a primary school. Teachers and tiny tots butchered by some 20 year old nutjob. When will the Yanks learn that it is not cool and clever to let everyone get tooled up just because the constitution says so?

What a terrible Christmas the poor relatives will have this year. We in the UK learned our lesson from Hungerford and Dunblane but in America they just seem to carry on regardless.

These incidents are always going to happen in a country where you are allowed to have a gun.

27 dead so far including 18 children aged 10 or under.

How the fuck can people get so screwed up that they have to kill a child?

Dear God the world is slowly going mad.

RIP all the innocents of this tragedy.

America believes in freedom, That's fine. However, you can still ban by law things that only do harm. They need to ban guns ASAP. In a country where any nutter can get armed to the teeth, the death of innocent people is guaranteed.

RIP victims of this latest tragegy.

Obama was very emotional when he gave his press conference. Perhaps it really is time for America to accept that it is not normal for everyone to be armed to the teeth just because they can.

The killer looks an odd fish. It sounds as if he used three guns, all of which belonged to his mother who was a teacher at the school. Why did his mother need three guns ?

I heard on the radio today he suffered from some sort of split personality disorder, which if true makes it all the more stranger as to why his mother kept 3 guns in the house if he was around.

Some of the dark side of social networking was revealed in this when they mistakenly announced his name as Ryan yesterday.

some poor bastard on twitter with the same name was abused and had his previous tweets analysed for no reason.

not to mention news media putting the wrong picture on the television, that puts lives at risk.

The name given was actually the killer's brothers.

There was some sort of initial mix up - I've read two explanations, the first being the killer had his brother's id on him when he was killed and the second the police transposed the initials of the killer.

Either way this id the story of what happened to him on Facebook -

'It was my brother. I think my mother is dead. Oh my God': Moment accountant sibling of school shooter saw himself named as killer on TV in case of mistaken identity

Vigilante behaviour is rarely a good thing.

Some of the vitriol aimed at the wrong person yesterday was scary, you can see how easily that could turn nasty.

Especially when they are all armed to the bloody teeth.
