Wanderers unbeaten run comes to a disappointing end after a 5-1 defeat against Wolves on Saturday at Molineux.

Two early goals from the home side made it a difficult afternoon for Wanderers who never got into their stride with Will Buckley's first goal for the club the only consolation.

And speaking following the final whistle, manager Phil Parkinson covered these points…

On his side’s performance…

I thought we started really well and that’s the disappointing thing. We’ve conceded from a set-play, something we’ve been good at, which was a blow to us.

We gave ourselves a mountain to climb with the soft goals we conceded early on. At 3-1 we have risked it and changed to a 4-4-2 to open the game up, but when you do that against a side as technically gifted as Wolves then they can punish you.

We tried to put the pressure onto them during the closing stages but it didn’t work and they’ve ended up scoring a couple of late goals. We know we have to defend well against teams of this calibre and we didn’t today.

On the quality of the opposition…

It was very tough for us today. Wolves are an outstanding team, they will win this league comfortably this season. They are an excellent side, they have real quality throughout all of the team and there will be many other teams who will have a tough afternoon at Molineux this season.

We have to put this defeat into perspective. They are by far the best team in this division, they have spent 15 million pounds on one midfielder and they have other Premier League standard players in the team. Although we could have done better you have to put it into context as well.

On the end of his side’s unbeaten run…

We will have to regroup and show our resilience and be difficult to beat again because today we were too open and we gave away too many soft goals today.

We’ve had a good run of late and the last seven games have been excellent and we have to start that again this week.

We have to take the recent qualities of the good run into this week’s training and into the next game now. The lads are obviously flat as you would imagine, but we know defensively we can do better.

And finally, on next weekend’s clash vs Barnsley at Macron Stadium…

On Monday morning we have to be right back on it at the training ground and make sure we work hard going into that Barnsley game next week.

The Barnsley game was always going to be a big one and we have to be ready for that one and I’m pleased we have a free full week to prepare for it.
