A small but interesting survey conducted by the BBC  suggests British workers are not ideal to step into the jobs vacated by the foreign workers that will be leaving as a result of Brexit.
We're a nation of slackers.

Tell that to out of work miners and steel workers.

Are they all out of work? Wonder how that happened.

I worked with both British Steel and the miners when Maggie closed the pits setting up spin out companies and retraining where necessary, so those that were lucky enough to get a job are in different industries these days. Most are probably retired by now.
Maybe the automotive workers who will lose their jobs will be willing to pick cabbages in Lincolnshire or go into the care sector on minimum wage?

I read somewhere that a massive amount of fruit and veg had gone rotten because the people from abroad who normally come over haven't done because of brexit and the toxic atmosphere it has created.

There are loads of other low paid jobs usually filled by immigrants that companies including the NHS will struggle to recruit to as Brits think they are above such jobs and won't do them.

Anyone made redundant during Wilson's time is pretty unlikely to be looking for a job today so I don't get your point AD. Who are these unemployed miners you refer to? Signing on with all the unemployed lamplighters, wheelwrights, wattle and daub plasterers and dry stone wall builders?

One problem we are overlooking is the fact that if anyone wishes to retain some personal pride and dignity, and go to work with any job they can get, there's a likelihood that their benefits are affected, so stopping them making the move. I don't know how the Universal Benefits affect this, but we used to know it as the poverty trap I believe. So, its not always that the British worker is lazy, although we all know we have  generations of benefit claimants, (for whatever reason), but often they are in a situation they cannot resolve themselves. have to agree though, that for many its a mind-set problem in accepting what they see as jobs with little prestige.

A very important point Glos.
A lot of foreign workers do the low paid jobs that many Brits look down upon. After 40 years in the EU we've "never had it so good" (to quote MacMillan) and as a result, attitudes have changed. Macjobs are still regarded with disdain by many but they are undemanding so I'm struggling to see a generation of workers willing to stand in the fields and pick vegetables on piece rate, care for the disabled and mentally ill and there's a dearth of apprentices wanting to do groundworks and labouring jobs which is why so many foreign workers have come over - they're prepared to work very hard - but soon they'll be gone and we'll be f****d.
The other side of the same coin is getting enough people into the qualified professions e.g. doctors - taking time out to train is expensive and the stress levels are well documented.
Expectations are sky high and with the growth of zero hours contracts and the forthcoming rise in the cost of living we're going to struggle at all levels.
Society is changing and we can reasonably expect a reduction in home ownership and more people doing temporary jobs rather than having a career.

Good news! Thanks to Borat, our unemployed can now look forward to a career as a nurse or a policeman.

Bojo recently spoke about how he wants to help the working class and to eradicate child poverty. Someone needs to text him then, and tell him that at the elections that he needs to vote Labour, then.

The thing is that he has a track record for being dishonest/telling downright lies throughout the leave campaign and the last election, is renowned for his spectacular U turns and voracious political climbing, is a known lackey of the foreign billionaires who finance the leave campaign and the Tory party and is widely distrusted, even by members of his own party. Only 20% of people think he is trustworthy, only 20% think he is honest and only 17% think he is in touch with reality.
Despite that, he is likely to be elected as our Prime Minister.

Perhaps that says more about where the British people have come to as a nation than it does about Borat himself?

He manages to look unashamedly straight down the camera lens when he is lying (like the rest of the Tories), but he can't keep the smirk off his face when he is doing it.

Just now on the BBC website.....one more lie to add to the great catalogue of porkies from the mouth of our trustworthy leader:-

"Was Johnson right to say Sturgeon wants Scotland to join the euro?

No, the PM was wrong, she did not say this in her interview with Andrew Neil"

Brings to mind the old chestnut:- how do we know when Johnson is telling a lie? Easy....it's when his lips move....

The Lib Dem Manifesto gives most to the poorest. The Tory Manifesto takes most from the poorest.
