I'm not sure really. Do you have an idea why?
If you do it may help us all!

I picked up the usual 24 pack around 2 weeks ago.
Hardly stocking up on it eh!

Had a look on the Sainsbury's website, and they have no delivery slots up to, and including April 4th.
Ended up on amazon primenow, and got a delivery for tomorrow. My sister-in-law works at Home Bargains, so we're OK for bog roll.

We have an Asda delivery coming tomorrow afternoon although some things have gone out of stock that are on our shopping list.boltonbonce wrote:Had a look on the Sainsbury's website, and they have no delivery slots up to, and including April 4th.

I’m just hoping we get the majority of stuff we have ordered.

We are quite lucky as we have just had a food parcel delivered from someone we know who has a restaurant that’s closing for a couple of months.

Fwiw my eldest brother is over seventy and has ongoing medical issues which puts him in the highest risk category, so I've got a very personal interest in all that is ongoing and have previously posted twice on this thread about how this should not be taken lightly.
Saying that though, the reality is this virus will not be terminal for the vast proportion of us and as long as the Government manages events so as to not overwhelm the NHS in terms of numbers seeking treatment at any one time, then even the vast majority in the high risk category such as my brother, will be able to survive catching the virus as well because the NHS resources would not have been swamped by a demand that it simply isn't catered to deal with.
It was to explain simply and visually why and how the Government was managing the events as they are that I posted up the video in the tweet, in order that we could all understand what was going on more clearly, only for the sites self appointed expert on everything to then pontificate to us where the Government and all its numerous, esteemed, highly specialised and professional medical experts and advisors were going wrong.
When I pointed out the absurdity of what he had said he responded with an utterly bizarre post telling us that the Government has an hidden agenda and is NOT doing its best for the country and all its people in managing this pandemic that has hit us and goes on to tell us how Trump had tried to buy the 'cure' to the virus in order to hold the rest of the world to ransom and finishes off by talking about not taking advise from propaganda put out from a tax avoidance specialist accountant???
If you or anyone else thinks I'm a prick, then that's fine with me, I won't lose any sleep over it but as far as I'm concerned there's only been one nutjob posting on this thread and it certainly isn't me.

Just in from Nutjob News - a bunch of unqualified nobodies that provided the basis of my "absurd" and "utterly bizarre" comments.....
Scientists question Government's coronavirus strategy.
OK, there may be hundreds of them questioning the Government's policy but they aren't employed by the Government so their opinion is neither "expert" nor relevant - obviously.
Trump tries to buy virus research.
Well it's the Gurniad so clearly that doesn't count as proper journalism. As for Die Welt - well they're German as is their Health minister who was quoted so for that very reason they don't count either.
Chief Scientific Officer states coronavirus will be an annual event.
Well he may be paid by the Government and he may be the top guy in England but he's been a very naughty boy letting that one slip and I've no doubt that nice Mr.Cummings will be having a word with him for not staying on script.
In other news...
Now all the pasta has sold out, there's been a run on Heinz tinned spaghetti (why?) and dried food so I've stocked up on porage/porridge??? oats which should keep me and the missus going for a while.

I presume its so they can get a proper chance to stock up the empty shelves?karlypants wrote:Just heard off the grape vine that my local ASDA is reducing it's hours from the usual 24 hours during the week from tomorrow so it's worth checking before any of you chaps go out to do your shopping late at night!
People really need to stop panic buying! Did anyone see the video of the queue at a Costco? What is wrong with people?

It's all pretty pathetic. When I start fighting people over arse wipes, it's time to call it a day. Now, unless it's quilted, three ply, scented and hypoallergenic, the world is coming to an end.

So individual, NON Government scientist unaware of all the complete and up to date information that the Chief Scientific Advisor and his team has to build the strategy and implement it as he has, 'gossip' from an 'anonymous' source about Trump, and concern over something the Chief Scientific Advisor said himself in his public briefings some days back reminding us that just like flu, this will be an ongoing event BUT would no longer have the same effect on the NHS's ability to deal with it in future as it would no longer face the same demand because we had built up a 'herd' immunity whereas other countries who have gone straight to lock down, wouldn't. Were you not listening again?
As for your continued implication that the Government is deliberately not doing the best for the country and thus putting lives at risk such as my brother's, simply for some unfathomable political reason you have imagined in the head of yours, I find totally abhorrent, deranged and repugnant.

I'm thinking TROY, that they are taking precautions in case some of their staff are off sick. This move will allow them to shuffle their workforce, and allow the night shift to be deployed during normal working hours.T.R.O.Y wrote:Weird, why would they do that?

Just been to Morrisons. People are fucking stupid. Panic buying anything they could get their chubby hands on.
Potatoes, bananas, apples etc all gone - they're really going to help in this Armageddon people wrongly think is coming.
This is where the government needs to step in with some tough measures - force the supermarkets to introduce steps to stop panic buying.
Food shortages are a much bigger threat than the virus.

Plus they anticipate that after an initial period of panic buying, and once the Government start a proper containment policy the amount of footflow will reduce. The demographic of people who shop at night is slightly different too as they include people who have been out to clubs/pubs and night shift workers - will they still be doing that? It's ironic that large crowds are seen as a bad idea, yet that's exactly what you get in the bigger supermarkets and even if overall footfall declines, this move would concentrate whatever footflow is left into a shorter timeframe.gloswhite wrote:I'm thinking TROY, that they are taking precautions in case some of their staff are off sick. Obviously this will be less problematic if the nation develops a high enough level of herd immunity in the second or third year of the virus - which could be achieved more quickly if an effective vaccine is developed and available.
