Never heard of them but I enjoyed that.
I have just been listening to some of their music on YouTube. Very impressive. Their versions of Suite Judy Blue Eyes and Harvest Moon are particularly good.

Just did some rough numbers on the effect of social distancing and I reckon we'll know within a few weeks.
Basically there's no point in looking at the number of people who "have it" as that's a function of the amount of testing, but deaths - if accurately recorded and ascribed - are indicative.
So the number of UK deaths per day currently is doubling every 4 days according to the Ministry. If you look at the 180 on Friday and assume it doubles 8 times in a month it equates to 46,000 a month from now.
If social distancing does it's job that should start to kick in next week if not sooner.
Yesterday....
The number of people to have died with the coronavirus in the UK has reached 1,019.
The latest government figures on Saturday showed there were another 260 deaths in the UK in a day, up from 759 on Friday.
There are now 17,089 confirmed cases in the UK.
It comes as the government said it was ramping up testing for frontline hospital staff who have symptoms, or who live with people who have symptoms.
Critical care doctors and nurses will be prioritised first, with testing expected to follow for A&E staff, paramedics and GPs.
In Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, health workers are already being tested.
The jump in deaths is the biggest day-on-day increase the UK since the outbreak began. The number of deaths is 34% higher than higher than Friday's figure.
The new figures include a further 246 people in England, with patients aged between 33 and 100 years old. All of them had underlying health conditions except 13 people, who were aged 63 and over.
In Scotland, 40 people have died so far in total, while the figure in Wales is 38. Northern Ireland has seen a total of 15 deaths.

Hi, I'm glad you liked them too. I only discovered them myself yesterday. They are so refreshing and really do great covers. I was messing about watching Neil Young, Tom Petty and REM and somehow they popped up from nowhere.xmiles wrote:Cajunboy wrote:Thanks for all your kind wishes.

Bit disappointed the Government is spending £5.8 million on writing to every house in the country after criticism of their handling of the crisis.
In Northern Ireland they have taken a different no-nonsense approach. Instead of trying to justify their actions to the electorate they have given police the power to impose a fine of up to £960 for people on the streets with no good reason and up to £5000 for businesses trading illegally.
I know which approach is the more likely to get the desired results.

The Tories deflecting their mishandling of domestic policy onto foreigners, nothing new here.

There is a point to be made inasmuch that the Chinese Government were themselves slow to recognise the virus in it's early stages and it could be argued that a quicker response might have minimised infection in the West.T.R.O.Y wrote:The Tories deflecting their mishandling of domestic policy onto foreigners, nothing new here.
However since then, China stepped up to quell the virus in their own country and have sent massive amounts of aid (ventilators etc) to affected countries such as Italy and South Korea.
But it is deflection as our own initial response was even worse as our Government had information to work with from the experience in China and elsewhere whereas in China it was a new thing that they had no background information on.

So the 'well connected' journalist from the Times who gave implied criticism of the Conservative government dealing with the virus was right yet the 'well connected' journalist from the Mail who gave the Conservative government's view on China's clear attempt to 'hide' the facts and mislead the world (see Le Wenliang) is a deflection away from its handling of the crisis?
Why can't you and nutjob grasp that this is bigger than your political prejudices and put away your pathetic point scoring until this thing has been beaten?
Fwiw I'm re-reading Forces of Nature by Brian Cox, whilst we're in lockdown and he quotes the moon landing astronaut Scott Carpenter who said the following apparently...
Makes you think that there's bigger things to deal with at this time than this supposed Conservative re-election strategy for the 2024 General Election.
Well it does me anyway.

Same goes to you too.
Even more so because you seem to believe you're right about absolutely everything.
You're not.

Dutch recall 600,000 defective masks from China
Officials in the Netherlands have recalled hundreds of thousands of protective masks, which were imported from China and distributed to hospitals, because they don't meet quality standards.
The Dutch Health Ministry told AFP news agency that 1.3 million masks were delivered on 21 March. About 600,000 of the masks had already been distributed to healthcare workers.
"The rest of the shipment was immediately put on hold and has not been distributed," the ministry said in a statement.
The problem was either that the masks didn't close over the face properly, or were fitted with defective filters.

It's all rather pointless sniping from the sidelines. No matter who is at fault, or not, the results will be the same.
We are all crapping ourselves as we work in groups generally twenty or more and should we end up on the wrong end of the virus then all aviation will cease. We can't work in masks, gowns and gloves, nor can we generally use distancing.
If the government, of whatever colour, is at fault for not implementing things in a timely fashion then the opposition, again of whatever colour, is at fault for not jumping up and down and insisting the government do things quicker.
