If we are seriously going to get promoted from the position we now find ourselves in then we need to start keeping an eye on how our rivals are now doing.

Tonight FGR (3rd, 61pts) are away to Mansfield (16th), Tranmere (4th, 61pts) are away at Colchester (22nd) and Exeter (just outside the play-off places in 8th, 53pts) are away to Oldham (17th).

FGR and Tranmere will be playing their 36th games tonight (same as we are on now in 5th, 60pts) and Exeter their 35th game.

Obviously hope all of them lose but realistically any of them not winning would be a bonus for us.

Feel free to up date and comment on the thread whilst we are still in with a shout of getting out of the league this season.

Agree that other teams results are very important and recently the footballl gods have been on our side, a clearer picture emerges after tonight, however current points per games says automatic will be achieved on 81 points. Any dip may make this total even lower. If we get 2 points a game or 5 wins and 5 draws we finish on 80 points and puts us right in the mix anything more even better .

This applies to our rivals also so any slip up helps the cause. We are well over 2 points a game over the last 12 games so it's down to keeping the run going then the others will take care of themselves in the head to heads.

Good results for us!

FGR - draw 0-0 - now played 36 (like us) with 62pts
Tranmere - draw 2-2 now played 36 with 62 points also
Exeter lost 2-1 - now played 35 with 53 pts.

We are played 36 with 60 points, so if we beat FGR on Saturday we will move above them!

Fingers crossed!

Very Happy

NOON KICK OFF DON'T FORGET!

You'll know from my previous posts that I've been avidly following the teams around us for a while now and some of them have had bad results recently which helps the cause as our excellent pitch has meant we'd played more games than some contenders. At one point Carlisle had 4 games in hand on us - but now they can't catch us simply by winning their GIH. Even so there are 10 or 12 teams still in the mix.
But after tonight's results we're just about back to a level playing field so I'm starting to take the idea of promotion seriously.

That said our remaining games are all against teams with a realistic chance of going up too - apart from two teams that are in right in the relegation battle - basically we have no games against mid table teams with little to play for - so every game in OUR run in is going to be very, very tough against opposition on a mission.

Some of the other contenders for promotion have easier run ins "on paper" so it's going to be a matter of us getting results against the other contenders starting with FGR on Saturday. We've beaten a lot of bottom half teams in our run so now we have to raise the level again.

Which all means that if we do get promoted despite the difficulty of our run in, we'll have thoroughly deserved it.
