Another interesting development...
The Parliamentary committee (the privileges committee) looking into Partygate seems to strongly infer that Johnson lied to Parliament.
If so that would normally mean he would have been required to resign as PM (I say normally because when he was PM he didn't adhere to any rules really and there was no way to get shut of him short of a no confidence vote from his own parliamentary party, which in effect is what happened).
IF the committee states this in their final report it would seem the end of any ambitions Johnson would have of becoming PM again and a major blow (I would suggest) to the Conservative Party's General Election Campaign hopes as he is still highly popular with Tory voters to be the next PM.
IF Johnson is now unelectable as PM, Truss proved to be a disaster, Rabb is toxic (bullying claims), then it would seem that Braverman and Mordaunt as the only major rivals to Rishi to lead the Tory party into the next election if it is perceived that Rishi is not up to winning the General Election against Starmer. -
Boris Johnson may have misled Parliament over Partygate, MPs investigating his conduct say.Evidence strongly suggests breaches of coronavirus rules would have been "obvious" to Mr Johnson, the privileges committee said in an update.
The inquiry has found four examples where Mr Johnson may have misled the House of Commons. This is not the committee's final report.
Mr Johnson is due to be give evidence to MPs later this month.
The former prime minister repeatedly denied breaking lockdown rules when asked in the House of Commons.
An investigation by the Met Police led to 83 people, including Mr Johnson himself, receiving fines for breaking lockdown rules.
The report said: "There is evidence that those who were advising Mr Johnson about what to say to the press and in the House were themselves struggling to contend that some gatherings were within the rules."
