The last couple of years I've become a bit of a boxset collector. I prefer series to films. You either get a film or you don't and you've only got the length of it in which to get it, where with a series you've got time to get into it gradually.

I like things like Cracker and Wire in the Blood.
And I've recently got into some American ones. I completed The Sopranos a couple of weeks ago which took over my life for a number of months and now I'm onto The Wire.

The Sopranos was one of the best series ever. The final episode scene in the restaurant was very eerie. Cracker was very good as well.

24 is another very good series.

Lost deffo lost the plot for me.

I have just watched the first series of Walking Dead and I enjoyed it.

Another good series on TV was Hill Street Blues followed by NYPD Blue but I',m not sure if they do them in a box set.

Best series ever, The Wire and Six Feet Under for me.

I loved LOST all the way until the final episode which was awful. Still great series.

Homeland is one to check out, really good first season.

It seems like any series by HBO gets cracking reviews.

The Wire, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under and several others not mentioned on here but generally regarded as being genius, all came from HBO.

I've just spent nearly fifty quid on The West Wing box set. It better be good.

I've never tried The West Wing or Sopranos.

I'll have to try again with Southland because apparently it's become a real quality show now.

Hipster, you are a Philistine if you have never watched Sopranos.

Just for info, before you spend any money you might want to check out 4oD catch up - The Channel 4 iplayer.

I'm not sure why but they keep nearly all of their history live on there - so stuff like all the complete series of The IT Crowd, The Inbetweeners, Shameless, etc can be found and for RT there are 146 episodes of Hill Street Blues for you to watch!

The 4oD A-Z link is below -

It's not the same for me not having the box and discs.

Fair enough - I just thought I'd let people be aware of it before they parted with their money.

Hill Street Blues was a brilliant series with some real characters. It was probably the first US cop drama with some real characters. I would recommend it because it knocks the likes of the Bill into a cocked hat.

I'm only saying Sluffy, it's an obsession with me.

My friend thinks I'm crackers for the amount I spend on Amazon on boxsets when most things you can find on the internet, but actually owning it in physical form is half of the fun, for me.

prison break is absolutely brilliant - i didn't watch it when it was on tv but someone bought me the boxset and i literally didn't go out for a fortnight.

The first 2 seasons of that were great. Went down hill a bit after that.

how many times can you escape from a prison.

Most admit I am a bit of a fan of the 80's and have box sets of some of the "great" classics from then...

Auf Wiedersehen, Pet!
Van Der Valk (all series')
Buck Rogers
Sharpe (I know that is more the 90's era)
Sledge Hammer
Cold Feet
Blake's 7
Spooks
Robin of Sherwood

But of today's drama's I must admit there is very little I am interested in as they tend to be very formulaic nowadays but the ones I do like are:

Blue Blood
Hustle (although this is the final series)
Hawaii Five O
Boardwalk Empire
Whitechapel

Must admit I cannot shows such as NCIS (all variants), CSI (all variants) Law & Order (all variants) - they just seem like very lazy TV as why have all variamnts and each based on the same premise and more than likely having same stories over and over again...

The CSI series are all pretty much the same. Hawaii Five O is a bit dated. It finished in 1980 and Jack Lord died in 1998. Book him Danno! ( My arse! )

obviously not what i meant.

it's like watching the same film twice, watching someone escape from a prison 2/3 times in a row lost my interest.

sorry. Rolling Eyes

You would have thought the authorities would have tightened up security and sacked the Prison Governor.
