Sorry, yes car speed what's the deal with 60 mph are aliens only going to be able to do 59 so we will be able to get away?

Because 60mph is 100kmh

This is only used in the UK and USA apparently, the rest of the world use km/h so 100 kmh would be 62mph.

Still not a clue why the UK or USA picked 60mph though!

The 0-60mph is really something to do with high performance cars and how long it takes that particular car to get to 60mph (e.g 3.5 seconds) I presume this is where it comes from.

It should be 62 but I assume it was rounded down

I can't really see that as if it was rounded down then it wouldn't really be accurate.

Just looking on wikipedia, it does say 100kph (62mph).

0-60 is a misleading stat anyway.

It's great if you're 18, live up Daubhill and like demolishing bus shelters and maiming people late at night, but it's not much use to us normal people.

My car does 0-60 in 9.3 seconds which isn't particularly impressive, but it generates shit loads of torque through the gears, so it picks up nicely if you drop it down from 4th to 3rd round a bend and then ease your foot down on the exit.
