ok Hipster, i'll take the bait. The point i'm trying to make is why was a left back not a priority right at the the start of January? Tierney has been out for months and not likely to be back. Baptiste did ok at left back but DF should have ensured and had in place by now a recognised left back and not praying that he can pull off a last minute deal.

Thats obviously dependant on DF actually wanting a left back, which if he doesn't he wants shooting.

I agree with all of that, LB is clearly a position of need, my only point is how do we know they haven't targeted multiple players from January the 1st and prior to that and not been able to get them in. Anyone suggesting they know all our targets is speculating or lying frankly.

they're dammed if they do dammed if they don't anyway, whatever left back he brings in (if he does/is able too) will be slagged off in any case.

(unless it's Jordi Alba)

Question is what are we offering potential signings?
* low wages
* a relegation battle
* a short term contract

Form an orderly queue please chaps.

Hipster why are you so sure we'll slag off whomever DF brings in as LB assuming he does?

The signing of Jutkiewicz has been met with some scepticism because of his poor stats, 2 goals in 24 matches this term doesn't sound great for a striker at this level and even Boro fans feel he's been and will continue to be poor. I hope we're all wrong and I won't judge him until he's played a few games but it doesn't look promising and only a fool would say otherwise.

If Dougie finds a decent LB, someone with a good record then I'd welcome that a lot and I'm sure most of the posters on here would do the same. What troubles me is that we seem to have put all our hopes on bringing McNaughton back from Cardiff when it's been clear since Solskjaer arrived that he wouldn't be allowed to leave even on loan. There seems to be no plan B, no alternative target and with both Ream AND Tierney injured that's just plain stupid. I hope I'm wrong, that DF has actually got someone in mind who's decent and we have a realistic chance of getting but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't KNOW that all is quiet, that we're not really in for anyone but I think if we were seriously trying we'd have heard something by now. I realise we may have to wait for a last minute deal because of our finances but that's a horrible gamble to take in our position and one that could well backfire on us badly.

Maybe we have - he's just bought Petrescu who can apparently play left back AND save abandoned kittens.

Most players in Leagues 1 & 2 would jump at the chance to play for Bolton. It needs a decent manager to spot talent that can make the step up. Dougie is not that man.

I don't want to put anyone off  watching, but everyone's friend Owen Coyle is one of the guests on BBC1 Transfer Deadline programme tomorrow night from 9.30 until the close of the window.
Given his  unparalleled expertise and undoubted success in the transfer market- it should be interesting

Kind of proves that we don't know the half of what's going on, and we are indeed looking for a left back.

forgive me for being underwhelmed if he does come back, can someone send Dougie an email, telegram, smoke messsage or something as it still hasn't sunk in that Mason can't play upfront on his own

Mason scored 1 goal in 5 games for us
He got 15 in 35 for Cardiff (1 per 2.33 games)
10 in 31 for Argyle (1 per 3.1 games)

Average is 1 goal every 2.73 games and that includes appearances as a sub.

Compare and contrast.
