Huddersfield Town and Bolton Wanderers are monitoring the situation of Blackpool defender Craig Cathcart, reports the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

The Northern Ireland international centre-back is out-of-contract this summer at Bloomfield Road but it is understood he has been offered a deal to stay with the Seasiders.

Blackpool paid Manchester United £300,000 for his services in August 2010 and he has gone on to make 117 appearances for the Bloomfield Road side, scoring three goals.

Cathcart started his career at Old Trafford at aged 16 and captained the Reds to the 2007 FA Youth Cup final.

The 25-year-old has been capped 18 times by Northern Ireland.

He represented the Green and White army from under 16 level upwards, although his only first-team appearances came in friendlies.

This could mean Dougie is thinking about changing the system again. I'd guess you'd have to with an entire team of centre backs.

Either that or we're losing someone. 
The worst case scenario is that Dougie has been told to save more than the media are letting on and we're having to sell to survive. I really hope that isn't the case.

DOUGIE Freedman has dismissed speculation linking Wanderers with a move for Blackpool defender Craig Cathcart.

Reports in West Yorkshire yesterday suggested the out-of-contract former Manchester United youngster is being targeted by both the Whites and Championship rivals Huddersfield Town.

But Freedman has categorically denied the 25-year-old centre-back is on his radar this summer.

The Scot told The Bolton News: “There is nothing in that.

“He is not a player who interests us. I don’t know where that has come from.

“We have agreed to sign Dorian Dervite in that position and he is a fantastic signing for us.”

The departure of Zat Knight and Tyrone Mears has reduced the backline options for Freedman, though strengthening the full-back positions is likely to be a top priority – particularly with a move for Charlton’s French central defender Dervite in place when his deal at the Valley ends next month.

Marc Tierney and Joe Riley are set to return to the fold after lengthy injury lay-offs but both positions were problematic last season.

Palace have just confirmed that they are releasing Dean Moxey and Jonathan Parr - both of whom we have been linked with during our full back crisis. (Also Gabbidon but that shouldn't trouble us)

Now there's still a lot of speculation about our cover at full back although with Tierney and Riley coming back and the emergence of the kids I'm not overly concerned - but reuniting with his former players may prove a temptation too far for Dougie to pass over.

Or is he scraping together every penny to try to assemble an attacking force?

i think Moxey is a possibility, didn't Dougie try to get him in January? we certainly need cover at left back, not too fussed about Parr though.
