Thornleigh, for instance took over St Annes, Harwood whilst buying land in Astley Bridge to expand so St Annes could be sold off, then the same happened again with St Cuthberts. In fact any school playing fields that were sold off locally were at schools that had closed!!! thornleigh, meanwhile, expanded their site at Astley Bridge 3 fold and still has plenty of fields and plenty of scope to expand!!!...and deregulating banking and finance so that they could speculate wildly and cause another crash, conveniently blamed on someone else

Even after they came to power teh state could not afford to operate them. If we had kept them we would be in a far worse position now than either Greece or Cyprus. Any Government should not afford to take on companies or anything else that leaks money everywhere - it just doesn't make sense, unless of course its a Communist regime and even recent examples show that it doesn't work - the fall of the Eastern Boc due to lack of money!!!

Whilst at the same time creating opportunities with teh YTS scheme and other utensils for learning new-skills for the new industries that were beginning to pop up in the country at the time. Also during the same period the loads of the unions, who thought they were above the law and gods of their union members (whilst living in grand luxury whilsst their paymasters lived in back-to-back and just surviving) basically demanding 2 people for 1 job whilst on a salary of 3 people - which the country was paying at the time!!! WE couldn't afford it. yes possibly it could be done a better way but the results would have had to be the same and the eventual hardship! Most of those made unemployed at teh time learned new skills, possibly moved to other areas and are now earning far more than what they ever would have expeected to and living in luxury they could have dreamed of. Only the embittered never re-trained and still blmae someone else for their own laziness!!!

(yes a bit of sarcasm - we were part of teh EU BUT she knew how to control the EU unlike Major, Blair, Brown and Cameron who have all given in to the demands!!!)

Even nowadays I class Mandela as a terrorist. He was arrested making bombs that were to maim and kill - and that was long before his 27 year stint in prison for sweet FA. He has never convinced me otherwise that he had changed his ways!
