The facts I wrote are largely assumptions???

And you aren't a global warming denier!

Did you not read the 'simple' explanation above, or did you read it and simply didn't understand it because the 'facts' are just that FACTS - they are taken from frozen core samples of the air condition from 800,000 years ago through to actual air readings from modern day, right up to the present.

Christ with a little bit of training you could go out and check the readings yourself - just pop round to one of the poles (either will do) drill yourself some bore holes, do the science and see if your readings are any different from anyone else's, whether they be British, American, Indian, Chinese, Russian or any other country on the planet.

Then go and take your findings to Donald, or Modi, or Putin, or Xi, etc and tell them to stop drilling - and what do you think they will do?

That is the difference between being a scientist with facts and a politician with power - one is bothered about the future and the other about staying in power today.

The Paris Accord was all about easing everyone's foot off the accelerator as we speed towards the edge of the cliff, in order that we have enough breaking distance left before we go flying off it but you can only do that if you care about the future and have the power (or the will) to put your foot on the brakes.

Politian's in the west want to win votes, so the likes of Trump deny the science - to win the votes and get into power - first rule of politics, being gain power by any means and that includes lying to the voters if the lie will help you to win (remember Boris bus slogan during the Brexit campaign for instance?).

Dictators like Putin and Xi don't have to lie but their issue is global politics (read that as global power) neither one care about their own people now - let alone those 70 or 80 years into the future - burning fossil fuel drives their economies to compete with America and neither will take their foot off the gas (pun intended) until they become the world's most dominant power - that's why the likes of Putin and Xi and all the other dictators Gadhafi, Saddam Hussein, etc, are brutal in keeping power because if they ever lose it like Gadhafi and Saddam they are soon dead.

Players like Modi and Erdogan (Turkey) play both sides of the fence, to keep themselves in power politically (neither will be killed if they lose it - but both want to keep it for as long as they can).

Those of us like Biden, Starmer and others who do understand what the future will be, face political deniers such as Trump, telling their lies - that people like you believe - and take their chances at the ballot box.

Trump won because he scared people into voting for him by telling them he can make them rich again by drill baby, drill (their first concern) and shut the borders (their second concern).

I am better off if we did plunder the North Sea again and send everyone back to bongo bongo land or wherever they came from but what will my daughter be facing in another 30 years time, when weather is getting wilder and people are fleeing their countries in droves to get into ours, simply because everybody is fighting each other just to survive the wars, famine, droughts, slavery, etc in theirs?

I might be 'assuming' the last paragraph but the one thing I'm not assuming is the science and the facts (or about how the world works).

And if people are flooding into the Europe and America now, then what do you think they might be doing in 30, 40, 50 years time when things have got a whole lot worse for them.

Do you think they will simply stop where they are?

Today's quick fix (burn more fossil fuel and send people back to where they are fleeing from) is only storing up bigger problems down the line.

You shouldn't need to have a brain like Einstein to be able to understand that.

It's blatantly obvious isn't it?

Seems my post above (734) about Rick Scott was a bit premature and a massive slap in the face for Trump, Musk, RF Kennedy and Tucker Carlson!

Some much needed sanity at last.

John Thune elected next Senate majority Leader

Reporting from Capitol Hill

Let's take you back to the ongoing secret-ballot contest to elect the new Republican Senate leader.

South Dakota Senator John Thune has won the race and will replace Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell, who has held the top leadership post among Republicans for the past 17 years.

In a second-ballot round, Thune won a majority of 29 votes in his favour from among colleagues, while his opponent - John Cornyn of Texas - won 24 votes.

Florida Senator Rick Scott, the preferred choice of Trump affiliates, was eliminated from the race after garnering only 13 votes in the first-ballot round.

That round saw Thune earn 23 votes and Cornyn earn 15.

What does the outcome of the Senate leadership contest mean?

Having hundreds of billions of dollars may be enough to purchase a social media company and land an all-access pass to the president-elect’s inner circle, but the US Senate still does what the Senate wants.

Florida Senator Rick Scott was Elon Musk’s endorsed candidate for Republican Senate majority leader – and, by implication, Donald Trump’s preference. But in secret ballot voting, the Republicans in the chamber quickly opted for a more traditional pick, South Dakota Senator John Thune.

Thune had served as the second-ranking Senate Republican for four years – plenty of time to win over his conservative colleagues in what is, essentially, a popularity contest. Scott, on the other hand, was more of a firebrand – who promised the kind of confrontational conservativism that is more typical in the House of Representatives.

In the end, the Senate – typically regarded as the more genteel congressional body – opted for the smooth-talking South Dakotan.

It represents a bit of a setback for Trump and his team, who likely would have preferred a more aggressive partisan in the top spot, ready to discard Senate traditions and procedures to advance his agenda. The more vocal of Trump’s Maga faithful are sure to complain.

Thune, however, is an talented legislative operator. Like his predecessor, Mitch McConnell, he may move slowly but he knows the levers to pull in the Senate to get results.

A bit more sanity, this time from Thune himself...

When asked if the Senate filibuster - a tactic that allows for unlimited debate and dictates the number of votes measure need to pass in the chamber - will remain unchanged, he responded: "Yes".

"The Senate is a place where the minority has a voice in our process and we will do the job the founders intended us to do," Thune says.

This also shows what a secret ballot can do... escape from the retributions of Trump and the maga crowd. Never would have happened with an open vote. It shows you what fear and retribution mean to the life long politicians, who only want to be re-elected... and the fear of a primary from the magas is the last thing they want (see Liz Cheney).

The following is shocking.

(Think of this bloke as having the same issues Prince Andrew had with underaged sex and a Jeffrey Epstein type of mate).

I was going to do a bit of a write up on Trump's nominee, Matt Gaetz, as the United States Attorney General...

United States Attorney General

The United States attorney general (AG) is the head of the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) and is the chief law enforcement officer of the federal government of the United States. The attorney general serves as the principal advisor to the president of the United States on all legal matters. The attorney general is a statutory member of the Cabinet of the United States.

So he must be a good and honest man then?

Think again.

Well have a listen to this - it's saves me typing what I was going to tell you - and maybe even people like W63 might have a look as he can't be bothered reading the facts I post.

Just to lead you into the video a bit, it starts with the news that Gaetz has suddenly and unexpectedly quit as a law maker (an MP) - why did he do that?

First you will hear the official version and then you will hear the real reason and why Trump nominated him to become the us Attorney General!

RFK Jr 'absolutely the wrong guy' for US health secretary, says expert
published at 13:28

The head of the American Public Health Association (APHA) says the organisation will "absolutely oppose" Robert F Kennedy Jr's nomination as the next US health secretary.

Speaking to BBC's Newsday programme, APHA executive director Georges C Benjamin says Kennedy has no health background and has "already caused great damage in health in the country", referring to Kennedy's scepticism of vaccines.

"He is not competent by training, management skills, temperament or trust to have this job," Benjamin says, adding "he's just absolutely the wrong guy for it".

He says Kennedy is not qualified to oversee an agency that has a budget of $1.9 trillion and a workforce of 80,000.

"We're going to advocate as loudly and as often as we can to make sure that people know what a risk he is to the public and to the public's health."

The APHA is the oldest and largest organisation of public health professionals in the US, representing more than 25,000 members.

And of course, there is his stellar pick for Secretary of Defense... Police in California have confirmed they investigated an alleged sexual assault involving Pete Hegseth, Donald Trump’s pick for defense secretary.
The incident allegedly took place about two months after Hegseth, a then twice-married family values Christian, had a baby daughter with his mistress at the time, former Fox producer Jennifer Rauchet.
Hegseth, a former Fox News host and father of a blended family of seven children, was reportedly dating Rauchet while he was still married to his second wife, Samantha Deering.
According to a media release from the City of Monterey, the alleged assault happened at 1 Old Golf Course Road, the address of the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa, in the early hours of the morning on Oct. 8, 2017.
Less than three weeks later, Hegseth was pictured at a private dinner with Trump at the White House.

Trumps picks...

Attorney General - head of all things legal - underage sex trafficking investigation pending.

Speaker of Congress - boss of Congress (think House of Lords) - involved in a multi-million fraud of government money

Health Secretary - head of all things health in the USA - famous amongst other things as being a vaccination denier (vaccines cause autism he claims - they don't and never have done).

Head of US Energy Department...

Gaetz withdrawal is a huge blow for Trump transition
published at 18:16

Gary O'Donoghue
Senior North America correspondent

Matt Gaetz withdrawing his nomination for attorney general is a big blow for the Trump transition - this was considered one of their most important picks.

Donald Trump is obsessed with the Department of Justice. He believes that it conducted witch hunts against him for eight years, including the four years he was in power the first time - even though his own nominees were in charge of the department during his first term.

So this nomination was enormously important, very high profile.

Gaetz's withdrawal is a huge blow, but it is also an illustration of the ways power is separated in this country between the presidency, the courts and Congress. The reality is that if you as president don't have enough support among your own people in Congress, you can't get your way - even if your party controls all those levers.

In the Senate, they pride themselves on a certain degree of independence. I think some might question that degree of independence nowadays, given Trump's capture of the Republican Party. But there does seem to have been a handful of people there who were uncertain about the Matt Gaetz pick - and that's all it takes to throw the whole thing into doubt.

Analysis
The Venmo payment leak that seemed to end Gaetz's bid for attorney general
published at 22:22

Mike Wendling
US digital reporter

The investigation into allegations that, among other things, Matt Gaetz paid for sex, is fairly old news – dating back to 2020.

And ever since those allegations were brought forward, he has denied all wrongdoing.

But his nomination to the post of America’s top law enforcement official put new attention on the issue.

And in recent days, US news outlets have been reporting on leaks from the investigation – one that did not lead to any criminal charges.

Some of the most significant material concerns payments that Gaetz made using Venmo – a popular online payment app.

The leaks show payments from Gaetz to several people, including two women - allegedly the money was sent to these women in exchange for sex with the former congressman.

Venmo users can attach short messages to payments – usually to indicate what the payment is for – and some of the transfers that Gaetz made apparently included messages such as “love you”, “being awesome” and “being my friend”, according to records obtained by ABC News.

Gaetz and Trump have not given a specific reason for the withdrawal of his nomination, but reporting on the payments has been one of the biggest stories in the US media over the last day or so.

And the level of detail could indicate that investigators have collected a much larger amount of information about Gaetz’s activities.

Gaetz perhaps now the future Senator of Florida? Will he join Trump's new party... Felons United? Dirty laundry coming out on most of his picks from Matt Gaetz (sexual trafficking and obsturction of justice) to Pete Hegseth (sexual assault) to Robert Kennedy Jr. who is an anti-vaxxer and had a worm in his brain and who wants to ban fluoride from the water system (among others) to Linda McMahon who was charged with enabling sexual abuse of children who has been named to head the Department of Education, to Tulsi Gabbard who Republican Nikki Haley called a Russian, Syrian, Iranian and Chinese sympathizer... she justified Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Europe has taken notice of these picks... with Germany's government in chaos, Europe needs a world leader... not one who has said he would leave NATO. History awaits!

My understanding might be faulty but as far as my following of all this - Gaetz quit as a US Senator and thus created a vacancy - the Governor of the state (in this case Florida) can nominate someone (presumably who fulfils the relevant criteria) to act as a 'temporary' Senator to represent that state in the US Senate  (for up to a year?) whilst an election can be held to fill the vacancy.

Therefore Governor De Santos (Rep) could in effect simply send Gaetz back to the US Senate for the next twelve months, if he chose to do that.

But if Gaetz went back to the Senate (or one day Congress) then surely he would be subject to the findings of the inquiry he quit to avoid - which clearly found against him (otherwise he would not have pulled out today after clearly not getting the backing he wanted on his visit to the Capitol yesterday - AND enough decent Republican Congressmen (I believe 4 would be sufficient?) would vote with the Democrats against him to get him chucked out (like George Santos (Rep) recently was?

I guess the immediate future for Gaetz would be if Trump appoints him to a post were no Congress approval is necessary or Trump wangles himself powers to appoint who he wants when Congress is not in sitting?

To be totally honest I simply can't get my head around why more than half the voters in any country would willing vote in an obviously corrupt man and put their own future freedoms and democracy in his hands?

It just seems insanely crazy to me.

Yes I know about the morons who have nearly zero education but I keep coming back to how the emergency hospital surgeon who was at the Trump rally when Trump was shot (and millions of others who clearly do have a brain) would vote for him?

Yes he might make them richer through cutting taxes but he throws everyone else under the bus in doing so - and that is just storing up trouble and resentment further down the line.

As the song goes...

There may be trouble ahead...

...and sooner or later we will all have to face the music but we won't be dancing!

Maybe as is happening throughout the West, people have woken up to the fact that they’ve been coaxed and brainwashed into liberal thinking by vested interests, brainless and spineless politicians and an equally misled MSM. The fact is people are just sick of being labelled racist when they complain about immigration being too high and ruining their country, fed up of paying ridiculously high energy prices in the name of net zero, sick of being chased by the police for something they wrote or replied to on line. The list is endless and people (populists in your parlance) are finally rising up and showing that they’re not prepared any longer to accept it. Sadly Sluffy you are one of the afflicted. Your comment that all the voters who did so for Trump must be village idiots just shows how far you’ve been entwined.

For your information GB News last week enjoyed for the first time higher viewing figures than Sky, BBC and ITV news did and their numbers are growing whilst the others are losing share. You can post all the facts, figures, graphs and sound bites you like from the “experts” but the majority will ignore them because they are finally realising they’ve been royally conned. Don’t think because somehow a Labour government succeeded here is some kind of indication we’re different because we’re not. we all know Labours win wasn’t a win it was a concession by a badly split right but that won’t happen next time so get ready to bury your head whilst Trump succeeds in reviving the USA economy, relives the tensions in Ukraine and the Middle East and shows the way for the West to limit and resolve the immigration problem. Oh and he’ll also trash the mindless net zero lobby which will spread here too.

As I say I just can't understand you.

I'm clearly non political, but in your head I'm a rabid Labour supporter.

You don't want to be called a racist but you post that you want all the Muslims to be sent home.

Energy prices sky rocketed because of the war in Ukraine and not because of any green agenda.

MSM (Main Street Media) can not be believed apparently, yet you were chatting with me just a day or so ago about a BBC programme you watched!

And being part of a majority doesn't mean you are always right - look at those lynch mobs of idiots who believe the same shit you did following the murders of the kids in Southport - turns out it wasn't an illegal immigrant that killed them but some nutjob who was born in Cardiff and went to school and educated here.

You did make me laugh though with your next paragraph - it probably does explain you to some extent - as what you've said more or less is that more people tend to watch GB News rather than the independent main stream news channels - whilst at the same time no longer believing the various 'experts' in their fields they've life long studied in but instead believe nutjobs like Trump, Farage, Truss, Braverman and Lee Anderson instead - spouting their bullshit on the likes of GB News and Fox.

Staggering stupidity that is!

And if you've not worked Trump out by now, you never will.

Trump is all about himself.

He says shit that doesn't happen to get idiots to vote for him.

He was going to build a wall last time - where is it?

He's going to send back all the undocumented illegal immigrants, end the war in Ukraine on day one, stop the war in Israel, make America great again by imposing tariffs are creating a trade war and all the other soundbites he's made but has no plan how to do them.

Well America now has what it wished for.

And the rest of us have to face the consequences thanks to that.

Have you ever looked up the meaning of the term Redneck?

Poor, white persons without education, esp. ones living in the countryside in the southern US, who are believed to have prejudiced ideas and beliefs.

Which states voted for Trump???

And we tend to use the phrase of white trash over here.

Which areas voted for Reform and cost the Tories all their seats?

Just a thought for you to consider.
