I feel like i'm stuck where i am to be honest Sluffy. I'm at the top of my pay scale and have been for years and don't want a promotion as i'm stressed enough as it is. The job is handy for home and for me picking up my youngest but other than that i hate it.

I have thought about leaving but i wouldn't get the same money anywhere else and would mean massive changes at home so i do feel stuck. The job is very stressful and only this morning i lost my temper in a team meeting as my so-called managers were being their usual hopeless selves.

KP's looking for someone to fill in for him for 29 days in August.

A bit of fresh air will do you good.

What exactly would i be doing filling in for KP? Do i have to hang around Bargain Booze and bins a lot?

And what would you have to 'fill in'?

Sorry, I've been out all day since I posted to you.

I feel sorry for you feeling trapped but can understand with your personal circumstances that it also makes sense to stay too.

The best thing I can suggest is to take whatever control of your job you can - if you can delegate work then do so, don't feel the need to do everything yourself - others will sit back and let you.

Similarly if you can say 'no', then say it - and mean it!

If your boss 'asks' you to do something extra - tell him you can't. your overstretched as it is.  If your staff wants a favour - say next week off - and you really can't manage without them that week, then tell them no (and explain your reasons).

You don't need to turn all bolshie or anything, but just stand your ground when you know you are in the right.

Also - and this is very important - take your leave - everyone needs a break to recharge themselves for the good of their health (mentally and physically) and it also shows them back at work how much you actually do, when they have to cover for you.

Hope there's something in there that may help you a little bit.

Cheers Sluffy, my main issue is that my bosses just delegate a lot of the work they receive down to me. I was joking with someone in my office the other day as they contacted one of my bosses for help with something and i said you may as well cut out the middle man and send it to me. He did send it to my boss and guess what landed in my email the day after?  Rolling Eyes

I know the feeling. I was frequently prevailed upon to do work that wasn't a part of my remit.
But I'm a nice guy, and was always ready to help.
To cut a long story short, they took me for granted, so when a major bit of business was coming down the pipeline, I waited patiently for the announcement before giving them notice.
I watched with some satisfaction as a lot of people started scrambling to get their heads around jobs they should have been doing in the first place.
Maybe I'm not so nice after all.

On that note, back in the day I'd decided to do a part time MBA so I needed a 9-5 job and ended up managing teams of business advisers for Business Link. Some bright spark at the DTI thought it was a good idea to introduce a quick "referral system" ostensibly to ensure that enquiries could be immediately passed on by advisers to colleagues who had specialisms in each particular field. Turns out one bloke in Wales was sacked after it was discovered that he'd "referred" every single enquiry for the previous two years and hadn't actually done a single day's work himself. Smile

England dropping catches and New Zealand piling on the runs. They're going to run up a cricket score at this rate....

England 17 for 3. Appalling.

Make that 21 for 4. Embarrassing. As Root trudges off, in comes the captain to try to put a shine of respectability into the scoreline.

Sir Johnnie Bairstowe to the rescue again. What a man. Jamie Overton also excellent with an untroubled and mature 89no on test debut. If we could just teach our top 3 how to bat we might become a formidable side once again.

Scores level and England still have 3 wickets in hand.
What a comeback!
So sorry for Overton - 97 on his test debut.
It's going to be interesting this afternoon as NZ need to finish off the tail but Bairstow and Broad are swinging and with a bit of luck can build a decent first innings lead.

We were 55 for 6 - currently 331 for 7.

Kiwis must be absolutely gutted.

As we approach the final moments of this series, with England battering their way to victory I have to say it's been a great watch and their approach has been a breath of fresh air.
You have to wonder if things would have been different if NZ had a fully fit bowling attack but I'm sure that teams around the world will be watching this because there is no way England will do anything other than go full out one day mode going forward.
Whether it works against better attacks or not remains to be seen, but it's sure to be entertaining either way. I like it.

Fittingly the series whitewash finished with a six.
It took just over an hour for England to knock off the hundred or so runs they needed and apparently some of the fans who came to watch on a free ticket seemed quite disgruntled.

Have we seen the end of Test Cricket as we know it?

Basically we have the same side that has done so badly against the West Indies and Australia - and everyone was calling us rubbish because we couldn't compete on anything like equal terms with the opposition and were calling for our players to play vastly more county games, simply to get some practice in for batting for longer than 20 overs!

We've completely seen a complete change in mindset - we've played the Tests as though they were T20 games - no intention of changing even when we lost 6 wickets for just 55 in the first innings.

Of course we have players like Root, Bairstow and Ben Stokes and have relied to still a large extent on Anderson and Broad for bowling but is it sustainable, will this way of playing make other country's change their ways too?

India for instance is the home of T20 cricket with the IPL - surely they will definitely look at doing similar.  Australia and West Indies also enjoy the T20 game and although NZ, South Africa and Pakistan (and ourselves actually - The 100 what an utter joke that is!!!) don't have the same domestic T20 equivalents, all of those country's top players travel the world to play in the India, Australia, WI T20 competitions.

If the style of play we've just seen for England and knowing such T20 type games are big in those country's, then isn't it conceivable that many other country's will mimic our style from now on?

Maybe in hotter countries you can't keep up such pace in the heat but then again maybe three players hitting a quick 100 each on the same day is equivalent of the team grinding out the same 300 over two days instead?

IF (big if I know) but if we commit to playing like we have, then why not replace our openers with Butler and Liam Livingstone - just imagine that batting line up...

Butler
Livingston
Pope
Root
Bairstow
Stokes

...maybe even Moen Ali as the spin option instead of Leach batting at 7, with Foakes in at 8!

It's certainly not Test Match cricket as I've known it AND a couple of BIG defeats for us might well prove the way we are going to be false but it would certainly bring the crowds back to stadiums all over the world to see such great entertainment as we have just witnessed.

It will be interesting to see how India deals with us in the nest Test Match.

The openers are still a problem so may be a good idea playing the likes of Butler there, Sangakkarra said the same in commentary the other day.

As for the end of test cricket, i think the way England have played has been great for the game, We won't be able to play like that all the time but as much as i love test cricket i can understand why people don't get it when you have a day of 2 runs an over and not much excitement.
