DOUGIE Freedman has warned Dynamo Kiev off any potential move for striker David Ngog.
The Wanderers boss claims he has received no contact from the Ukrainian giants, who are thought to be weighing up a £4million bid for the Frenchman.
But as he prepared for this afternoon's home clash with Hull City, Freedman said he was in no mood to lose the 23-year-old's services, even if it meant recouping the entire transfer fee paid to Liverpool two summers ago.
"You look at every offer but no-one has made an offer," he told The Bolton News. "If someone did, first thing you do is reject it and then double it.
"You look at whether it's someone you want to lose, is it value for money?
"David is someone I don't want to lose. That position is crucial.
"If it were a different position where I was quite heavy, then it might be different.
"But we're not over-blessed with strikers. I think I have got four who are capable. We're happy with that.
"If you took one away, even to bring someone else in, it could be difficult."
Ngog's representatives are thought to have met with a delegate from Kiev on Thursday afternoon in France but Freedman's insistence that no official approach has been made is likely to mean the Ukrainian club have now left it too late.
Paperwork would have to be rushed through quickly to enable him to gain a working visa. But the Whites boss is planning to utilise Ngog against Hull City at the Reebok this afternoon and does not think the speculation will affect his performance.
"David is happy and I'm very happy with him – and why wouldn't I be, the way he has been playing?" he said. "He's a great guy and we are working hard with him. I think his all-round game is getting better.
"We understand that even though he has that Premier League name he's still a young guy and he has to work hard. He's someone I want to continue working with."
Reports of Kiev's interest even came as a shock to Freedman, who was forced to check his transfer rulebook.
"When I first heard about it, I thought it can't be true because the market is closed but then I did a little bit of research and there goes all the worrying in January," he joked.
"I've had no contact from them, so as far as I'm concerned it's paper talk drummed up by some Russian club because the window is still open."
