I think Nixon is right about our strikers - we do have loads of them and under the current system they are all competing for one place (2 on a good day) I'm more surprised at the patience being shown in the likes of Odaleysi and Eaves although getting Ngog's wages off the books is probably more in line with the financial policy.
Club seem keen to talk - Ngog not so keen to move, so we're probably paying him too much.
If he goes, any money for transfers should be used to sort out the real problem - conceding goals (as highlighted by the Hull stat) - but suspect it may be used for debt reduction.

Ngog is the new Elmander - overpriced and frustrating, for which reason, he will never get the credit from Bolton fans he deserves.

Like Elmander, he lacks match-changing quality, but throws his weight around in a way that brings other players into the game and gives the side a dimension that Kevin Davies, at best, can not. He's a "grass is not always greener" player. You want to throttle him whilst he's at the club, but realise once he's left that he brought something you couldn't always put your finger on.

That said, he isn't worth £4m to the club, and doesn't fit in with the new wage bill structure the club needs to work towards.

Interesting comparison. Both Ngog and Elmander are good players, but what they bring to the team is workrate, effort, passing and decent skill on the ball. Sadly both players are hyped as strikers - which in the sense of "fox in the box" was never the case. Elmander was a winger before he played for us. I tend to think of them both as decent midfielders. Both players need a system that maximises their potential, but we don't play like that at this club. I think it's unfair to slag them off because it wasn't their fault that they were hyped as "strikers" creating unrealistic expectations in the mind of most fans who expected a bunch of goals from them.

Elmander missed more open goals than any other BWFC player since David Reeves.

Forget systems and tactics - if you can't beat the keeper from 6 yards uner little pressure you're shit as far as I am concerned.

DOUGIE Freedman has warned Dynamo Kiev off any potential move for striker David Ngog.

The Wanderers boss claims he has received no contact from the Ukrainian giants, who are thought to be weighing up a £4million bid for the Frenchman.

But as he prepared for this afternoon's home clash with Hull City, Freedman said he was in no mood to lose the 23-year-old's services, even if it meant recouping the entire transfer fee paid to Liverpool two summers ago.

"You look at every offer but no-one has made an offer," he told The Bolton News. "If someone did, first thing you do is reject it and then double it.

"You look at whether it's someone you want to lose, is it value for money?

"David is someone I don't want to lose. That position is crucial.

"If it were a different position where I was quite heavy, then it might be different.

"But we're not over-blessed with strikers. I think I have got four who are capable. We're happy with that.

"If you took one away, even to bring someone else in, it could be difficult."

Ngog's representatives are thought to have met with a delegate from Kiev on Thursday afternoon in France but Freedman's insistence that no official approach has been made is likely to mean the Ukrainian club have now left it too late.

Paperwork would have to be rushed through quickly to enable him to gain a working visa. But the Whites boss is planning to utilise Ngog against Hull City at the Reebok this afternoon and does not think the speculation will affect his performance.

"David is happy and I'm very happy with him – and why wouldn't I be, the way he has been playing?" he said. "He's a great guy and we are working hard with him. I think his all-round game is getting better.

"We understand that even though he has that Premier League name he's still a young guy and he has to work hard. He's someone I want to continue working with."

Reports of Kiev's interest even came as a shock to Freedman, who was forced to check his transfer rulebook.

"When I first heard about it, I thought it can't be true because the market is closed but then I did a little bit of research and there goes all the worrying in January," he joked.

"I've had no contact from them, so as far as I'm concerned it's paper talk drummed up by some Russian club because the window is still open."

Four strikers that are "capable"? Guess that's Eaves out of the picture then.

He's out on loan so isn't available.

Ngog did alright today btw.

I'd still sell him for £4million though.

After today, price has gone up to £5 Million.

N'Gog played well today, but if Dougie manages to negotiate us a transfer fee above £4m for his departure, he deserves the keys to the town.

Ngog was alright, but never looked like scoring. Fine on days like today when others are filling their boots, but in tight games you need strikers who score goals.

Have to say I love Dougie's attitude to transfers. He'll beg, borrow and steal players for a song but will ramp up the price if interest is shown in anyone he'd like to keep. We haven't had a manager who trades like that since the Rioch/Todd era and it's long overdue.
