I'm a bit like Breaders when it comes to Clarkson. Some of the stuff I have seen him do is quite funny. What really annoys me is how these infringements seem to be blown out of all proportion. Below is an excerpt from the article:

Aliya Mohammed, the chief executive of Race Equality First, called for immediate action from the BBC.

She said: "I am appalled at yet another open display of racism from Clarkson. How many racist comments will the BBC allow from the presenter? It makes me question whether Clarkson feels it would be acceptable because he thinks viewers and others within the BBC share his views.

"Racism is illegal and it has no place in modern society. I urge as many people as possible to show their condemnation of this abhorrent display of racism. A public personality should set an example to viewers and Clarkson is clearly a very bad example."

Lawyers for the Indian-born actor Somi Guha, who appeared in The Bill and other television shows, made a formal complaint to the BBC Trust as calls for Clarkson to be sacked gathered pace. In the letter, which was also sent to the media regulator Ofcom and has been seen by the Guardian, the lawyer Lawrence Davies demanded an external investigation into how the offensive language had come to be edited out of the show and whether Clarkson had been reprimanded.

Aliya Mohammed and Somi Guha are Asian and not Afro-Caribbean so why are they jumping on the bandwagon. Personally, I don't like the N word but if it is so bad why do so many black Americans use it all the time?

That bastion of decency, Piers Morgan, has put his tuppence in.

Piers Morgan, the former CNN presenter with a long history of feuding with Clarkson, led calls on Twitter for him to be dismissed. He said Clarkson should be "TV toast", and added: "Ron Atkinson was fired by @ITV for using the N-word. Don't see how the BBC can avoid firing @JeremyClarkson if he did the same … In America, he'd be fired by now."

...says the man who coughed to using mocked up pictures of British soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners to sell newspapers.

I'll take my moral direction from somewhere else thanks, Piers......

(You are right about Americans and their obsession with owning automatic weapons, though.....)

I love Clarkson, I couldn't care less what he does or says off air because it's nowt to do with me.

It's amazing the amount of people that have time to get offended by the smallest of things, if they put their energy into things that actually mattered the world would be a better place.

I'm not particularly offended. There again his casual racism wasn't directed at me.

The thing about stuff like this is that the 'process' becomes more important than the 'problem'.

Nobody should be singled out and picked on because they are different in some way wether that be by race, religion or physical appearance - the 'process' though is not all inclusive and people say who are ginger, or bald, or tall, etc, etc can be - shall we say - laughed at - whilst those who are black, or Muslim can't.

The 'process' then becomes an all encompassing blanket to 'hide' under for those who wish to abuse it - they 'threaten' to play the 'card' to their own advantage - for instance I once had to work with a black woman who was well known to be lazy at her job but who when challenged by her superiors always use to say she was being singled out because of her colour - she was not. In the end she became untouchable simply by using her skin colour.

It is better understanding and education that is needed for people to look beyond the skin, religion or gingerness to see the people underneath - and for they to not exploit their culture and heritage for their own advantage and the disadvantage of others.

Everybody knows a Jeremy Clarkson.

Witty and amusing, but just a nasty right-wing bigot.

Unfortunately, you can't (and shouldn't) get away with it when you're in the public eye. He should be sacked.

Agree with Sluffy.

I used to have a "Second in command" on my shift who stood in for me when I was off and ran things and he was openly gay.

Good for him.

Until I was off on Jury Service for three months and came back to tales of him taking the piss royally, coming and going as he pleased, taking days off without booking holidays and generally using my absence as an opportunity for an easy ride.

So I pulled him on it (Go on, Magoo.....have at it.)

And the first thing he did was play The Gay Card.

I was truly offended by it because his sexuality has never interested me in the slightest and I thought it was pretty disingenuous of him to play it, given the struggles that gay people have had over the years to achieve equality in the work place.

Needless to say, because this sort of thing very rarely crops up even now, the HR manager shat herself and told me to back off.

Fucking ridiculous.

If you want equality, then play the game and don't go using The Card to cover up the fact that you're a lazy, scheming twat.

What don't I like about clarkson? Well I'm gonna tell you, once upon a time I quite liked him but then he wrote a piece in the paper when Robin Gibb died, he said great band but a blatant copy of the Beatles. The man is a complete  twat, The Bee Gees were unique nothing like the Beatles from then on I knew he was an arsehole.

Can't believe I'm hearing people defending him on BBC Breakfast, saying that "you've got to take it in context" and "that's just how Jezza is" and other assorted bollocks.

If you punch someone at work, you're gone - simple.

Just listening to the phone in on 5 live en route to a meeting and can't believe how many idiots are supporting the idea of "it's OK to break the law (if that's proven) if you're a celebrity."
I'm hearing things like...

* It's just banter
* He's talented
* It's the way he is i.e. a bit eccentric
* That's the problem with the PC brigade
* The show is popular and cutting it will cost the BBC a fortune

Last time I heard that defence it was when former BBC colleagues were justifying why they didn't do anything about their concerns over Jimmy Savile in the 70s and 80s - after all, Jimmy was a popular banter merchant with a high-earning show and was equally "eccentric". Because of this very argument they did nothing.

This has turned into a debate where people's opinions are being based on their feelings towards political correctness and/or opinion of Clarkson - not about whether celebrities should or should not be exempt from breaking the law (if proven)

These people supporting Clarkson are supporting the very approach/attitude to the law that allowed Savile to continue to molest children for another 30 years. Ignorant bastards the lot of them.
