I've watched most of Bunuel's films but I've still not got around to The Young and the Damned (Los olvidados) yet

Some films are only good at the time they come out. It's hard to judge now a film from 30 or 40 years back. I remember standing in a long line around the block with parents to see Goldfinger. Now you wonder why...but at the time there was nowt like it.  Later on we were in line for the Exorcist in Manchester (I think it was banned in Bolton). Show it to young folk today who have grown up on much more graphic horror flicks and they would wonder what all the fuss was about.
Annie Hall & Manhattan (mentioned above) were great at the time...because they were unique at that time.

This is a good place to find movies you should watch...

I did once try to make a point of watching some of the older ones.  The good, the bad and the ugly was surprisingly good

The IMDb site is very useful and it used to be even better when they allowed people to discuss the films and comments. The list is a good place to start and most of these films are good or great but if you are a film buff you might find it pitched too much at the more popular end of the market. For instance the two films most highly rated by film critics, Vertigo and Citizen Kane, are only 91 and 93 on the list whereas the three Lord of the Rings films are all in the top 15!

It is all a matter of personal taste though.

I haven't gone through the list but the short answer is almost all of them! I like and have always liked watching films. The only one in the top 20 I haven't seen is Joker, which has only just been released.

Shawshank is an interesting one. It went unnoticed on its release, but the DVD took it to another level.

Very glad Stand By Me is on the list, even though it's only at 204. It's a minor classic.

I saw 11 of the top 20
Some of the movies on there I have never heard of...and I consider myself fairly knowledgeable on this stuff.
Lists with Lion King and Toy Story may need to be questioned but otherwise it's not a bad list.  overall.

Braveheart was the one that stood out for me as not belonging there. I have no problem with Toy Story though. I have my doubts about Lion King but haven't seen it.

Of the top twenty in that list, only The Godfather Part 2 and the Seven Samurai would get anywhere near my chart. Maybe Cuckoo's Nest and Goodfellas. I understand it's intended to be very populist compilation but where are the gut-wrenching mindblowers? Only one foreign language film in the top 20 is poor and where is Fellini, Tarkovsky, Bunuel, Almadovar or the innovative stuff like this 70s classic..?

OK French silent cannibal anarchist movies aren't everybody's cup of tea, but everyone should watch this at least once.
