Which other thread? There are so many ST threads to choose from....Smile

Is it the one in which you write:

"These opinions are my own and in no way reflect the opinion of the site i am posting them on"?

If so, I would dispute the "fact" that "ED is public enemy number 1" which is clearly not a fact.
And there is no factual link between ST and Deano's bid other than a highly spurious one as far as I can tell.

No I recognise those are facts you've put across (Hurst connections to Gartside & not elected, the guy with the stock image and the guy who linked Bolton Nuts to a porn site) not arguing with any of them.

I'm just not ready (personally) to write off the effort the ST has made so far. I think if handled properly they could provide a clear line of communication between the board and the fans.

That's a big if, which again, I'm aware is conjecture on my part, but it's not looking great for me

I mentioned weeks ago on here that if the ST does somehow get itself a seat at the table with the club's board at some point, it'll be a complete waste of time because the people running the club will just feed 'em what they want to hear then ignore them like these Mickey Mouse Work's Council things you see.

And the same goes for comms into the club - they'll nod and look interested then ignore them and have a good laugh behind their backs after they've left.

It's pointless.

But I'm still thinking and commenting about it because my specific fears are that someone as yet unknown is pulling the strings behind the scenes and that makes me uneasy with it all.

There's money involved and that attracts a certain type of character in my experience and it worries me.

I'm not overly bothered about the idiots currently running the show, they're about as much use as Lennon's tactics manual and they probably don't even realise they're being used because they're all far too wrapped up in how important they all now think they are, it's what's to come in the future that bothers me.

And I can't shake this notion that somebody's up to no good.

Ye but at this point it's impossible to say how well the ST will be handled as it hasn't even been set up yet (that's what the steering group's for) once the ST's officially in place elections will be held for a place on it - good opportunity for us to push Manda as a Nut's representative?

That i agree with. (The manda bit) but i still think they are either a bit naive or a bit thick with decisions they have already made.

The lack of fans voice in football clubs is unique to British football out of the top European countries, that has to change and if this sort of initiative does that then it's a big positive we don't have to settle for the status quo of fans getting ignored and ripped off by clubs.

Maybe it will end up the way you say, but at least their giving it a go.

Well if they are naive then that's better than the theory it's current board members behind the scenes pulling the strings.

(But not too encouraging long term!)

The elections will be a farce.

The current steering group will all get voted in, despite what they've said previously.

That's what you do if you've got some gobby pain in the arse working for you who thinks they're smarter than the average bear - you make them an official spokesman for the workforce and then invite them in to meetings and slip them little bits to make them feel all superior and they go back and tell their mates what a great boss you are.

And meanwhile, you're shafting them but they're too thick to realise it and they quite often become vocal advocates for you on the shopfloor.

It happens all the time.

Again, maybe you're right but considering the reaction to the steering group and anybody connected to the current board's I'm not sure it will be that clear cut.

If that does end up being the case I'll say fuck 'em myself, but that's the point I'll be waiting for.

Tension grows in takeover talks as Sports Shield deadline passes
DEAN Holdsworth’s Sports Shield consortium were seeking answers from owner Eddie Davies last night as they sought to find out whether their takeover of the club had been successful.

A number of issues have arisen in the last 24 hours that have dented hopes that Davies - currently residing in Barbados – would give his blessing to their bid.

As [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] went to press no decision had been made, and the deadline set by Sports Shield had also passed.

It is understood the group will walk away from the negotiation process if they are not named as preferred bidders.

Davies is keen to ensure that the next owners of the football club he has helmed for the last 13 years have adequate funding to meet the challenges it will face in the next few years, but is conducting the negotiations at his own pace.

A nominal £1 is being asked to assume control, so long as £6million of shareholder loans are paid off in full. But the sticking point for Sports Shield and most of the other parties who have explored the purchase of the club has been to prove they have the money to cover future bills.

That figure has changed consistently through the process but is now thought to be around £8million.
Should Davies choose not to back the Sports Shield bid then it would strengthen the hand of the Supporters’ Trust, giving them encouragement to form a bid of their own.

The trust is currently working towards holding its first elections and is looking to have a say in the club’s future at board level regardless of ownership.
But if they are granted enough leeway, it is possible they could form a hybrid bid, similar to that at Portsmouth, which would see the trust own 51 per cent of the club, with the remaining 49 per cent made up of cash backers.

If those are the only two options currently being considered by the owner, it would appear to rule out the Far East consortium that has been strongly linked with the club over a number of weeks.

Davies could seek to start the selling process again, which would take time and lead to the further sale of assets to fund the club in the shorter term.

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

Looks like we're still nowhere near a conclusion. I've no idea why ED is sunning it up in Barbados at such a critical time. Surely he should be here busting a gut to get something sorted.

Is he stalling so he can continue to sell off the assets and squeeze as much money as he possibly can out of the club before it goes into admin?

Is he stalling because his preference would be for the ST to try and buy the club and they need time to get their shit together?

Is he genuinely concerned that SS don't have adequate cash to take us forward? What's the point in selling to them if they can't help us prosper in the long term?

Who knows? Just fed up with it now.
